I sent my ZX500 in many years ago just to have PG go through it. It was a v1 but came back with a v2 case. They put a note in there explaining it, but that was a long time ago. Is it just a different fan that makes it v2?

Thanks for the write up Eric. I had no previous experience with soldering or circuit boards but your guide gave me the confidence to tackle this on my own. I watched a bunch of videos on YouTube on how to properly solder and I jumped right in. Everything turned out wonderfully and my 16 year old zx5...

Wow, I just pulled all mine out of my zx500 the other day and none were leaking at all. I'm being good and changing them out, though. You guys made me paranoid, lol.

FYI, found some "Precision Electronics Cleaner" at Radio Shack, seems to have done the trick.

Theres all these circuit board cleaners online, any of those any good? Some are expensive. Or are you just just saying use rubbing alcohol and q-tips... :|

Hey all. I've got an old zx500 that I bought back in 1996 that I'm still using. You have me scared to death about the caps so I'm in the process of replacing those. The first thing I did was crack the amp open to take a look and it is fairly grimy in there. Especially under the heat sinks and around...
