Class Action regarding capacitor prices

The only capacitors I have ever purchased were from DigiKey for repairing an M25, two ZX250's and a ZX-Ti500.4. I received a postcard about a $15m settlement against a capacitor manufacturer for price fixing of capacitors. I'm guessing digikey gave them my details (?). I certainly didn't sign up for...

Thanks, I've looked more at their website. I guess these are Rally replacements.

Re: 25v caps to replace old ZX ones, is this ok?

I just bought the caps that Eric recommends from digikey for the PS caps. For the $15 it costs (4 caps + shipping ... About $15), it means you know they'll work for sure. Have you looked at his guide? I followed it exactly, and it all four amps are successfully upgraded now.

Re: History of Boston Pro components - models, changes etc?

Just realized that the last ones are not actual Boston Acoustics, but Boston Mobile Sound or something ... that explains why they're so cheap.

Re: History of Boston Pro components - models, changes etc?

It's starting to make sense to me. I think the ones I remember from back in the day, were the 6.4LF. I've put some pictures up that I think are correct. 6.2 6.4 Pro60SE SC50 I think I'd have found it easier to follow if they'd stuck to 6.1, then 6.2 etc. Then it'd be easy to list them in order and n...

Re: History of Boston Pro components - models, changes etc?

Thanks. So does that mean the models over the years were (in 6 inch two way components):

6.1
6.2
6.3
6.4
6.5?
...

In the pictures I placed above, I remember them looking like the bottom picture.

Thanks.

Re: Let's see your stash

RE: The black magic. Well, sort of yes and no. It's mint, only been used about 9 months by me back in about 1998 to run a set of Mission 5 1/4 components, so hardly used and used gently when it was used. My thoughts are many about it. It's mint, it's a little different/rare, and it'd be great for fr...

Re: Let's see your stash

My stash was four amps, three sets of speakers etc, but I've done some selling. I'm down to just these pieces, but am going to sell the active crossover next week, hopefully. I'm then going to be looking to buy a few more pieces, but more targeted buys. A zx450 or maybe a ZPA, some Boston Pro's, dep...

History of Boston Pro components - models, changes etc?

Is there a website that details some of the history of the Boston Pro components? I'm looking for a basic brake down of when they first came out, and what the different generations were. I wanted a set in the 90's, but never looked too closely because of cost. I'm now trying to narrow down to which ...

Re: What causes 'thermal' faults?

Hi Both have it. We thought possibly the right was worse , but they may have been equally as bad. My friend is going to try switching the RCA (the head unit only has one set) and putting it directly to the rear inputs, rather than it passing through the front inputs and going internally to the rear ...

Re: What causes 'thermal' faults?

Eric, Francious, thanks for the info. I'd not realized that the amp may still 'work' with blown transistors. From a mechanical engineers perspective, electrical things either work or they don't ... When I started the thread, it was out of curiosity before possibly buying a broken amp to play around ...

What causes 'thermal' faults?

I don't have any amps with this issue, but I see some on eBay from time to time. Now, talking very generally about this, what are some of the causes? I can see that the problem must result from 1) the amp's method of dissipating the heat is compromised (so faulty fan, dried out thermal paste ... etc...

Re: ZX475Ti - PCB pictures required

Done! Tested it, just with a battery, home speakers and a sub, and all works .. I get sound out of both speakers and the sub! The cap's did press in, just a little force. Most 'snapped' into place, one just moved into place without the snap. I found that cleaning out the holes is the hardest part of...

Re: ZX475Ti - PCB pictures required

That was my thinking too. Stock they were 2200 I think, so possibly there is a 2200 105C cap. I'm happy that PG used 85C caps and they rarely go bad (from what I've read, although on my amp they went missing). If I was more savvy with electrical components, I'd look into it more, however I'm from a ...

Re: ZX475Ti - PCB pictures required

Thanks, so no matter how hard I push, the via's won't be damaged? I'll have one more go at cleaning out the holes, then check continuity again and press in the caps. I did buy one spare cap. I've bought three different caps, and these are the only ones that fit, so going to run with these. If they d...

Re: ZX475Ti - PCB pictures required

Some further progress today, but some confusion. I found removing solder from the old caps far harder than I'd imagined. The solder wick doesn't seem to really draw it up the way I'm doing it. I found the soldering iron on one side and the solder sucker on the other worked best. I've still got conti...

Re: ZX475Ti - PCB pictures required

I finally have the amps and caps in the same location, so wanted to share what I've worked out so far. 1) The standoffs that hold the small PCB above the main board are 35mm high (to where the bottom of the top board is, i.e top of the main pcb to bottom of the top pcb is 35mm). 2) The upper Pcb has...

Re: ZX475Ti - PCB pictures required

Yeah, I got 5 of each kind (as I didn't want to find one faulty when I was half way through the repair), so that's 15. Two shipping charges too, and I added two power supply caps. It soon adds up. I'll see about returning some, but I doubt digi key do returns of small items which are low value to th...

Re: ZX475Ti - PCB pictures required

I can tell ya with almost certainty that the ones you ordered wont fit. The PSU caps can be upgraded to 30-32mm without issue, but that gets them very close to flush with the top of the daughter board. The rail caps need to sit below the board & still have room for all of the parts mounted on t...

I've used these on a few 475ti's & 600.2ti's, the size is a perfect fit & you are aware you want snap in caps for the rails. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Panasonic-Electronic-Components/ECO-S1HP272BA/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtZ1n0r9vR22QqzopUJ6WFXDvMynvBovWY%3d I opted for slightly higher capac...
