Seems like there is a short in the dial where it turns it on/off. Road bumps make it cut on/off sometimes, and tapping the dial can do it too. It's probably a simple soldering fix. They're externally powered. They're actually on the same circuit as the lights for the Elite subs. It is all wired into the vehicle's alarm so I can use the key fob to turn the lights on and off.
