Thanks Scott. This build is already done. But I'll definitely look into it on the Cap'n 'Murica van build.

Re: Gerty

Once the sound deadener was in I was left staring at this clean slate that was just begging for a system. I had noticed a few pieces of equipment in the stash room when I had gotten the sound deadener out. After digging through all my stash I grabbed a few pieces and started to formulate a plan. I h...

Re: Gerty

Once I stripped out the interior I took a drill with a wire wheel to all the surface rust. Scotchbrited everything else. Then put on 2 coats of rust converter. Let it dry then painted it all. I then put sound deadener mat on all surfaces that wouldn't be seen once the interior was back in.

Re: Gerty

When I started taking things apart to install my spiffy new stereo. I ran into a problem under the carpet. The factory used a jute style padding with what looked like a wax coated paper or cardboard layer on top. This had to have caused any moisture that got under it to not be able to evaporate very...

Gerty

After driving my old C10 'Gerty' around for the past 15 yrs with a $30 pawnshop system. Pyramid tape deck and 2 of those lil speaker pods screwed to the kick panels. I decided to finally upgrade to a better radio. Had to be bluetooth since we now have the hands free law here. The plan was a Retrosou...

Zx450 sensitivity pot

Hey guys been out of it for a bit. I did get around to building to a system around my 2 zx amps. Love, love love the sound of these! I swapped out the input caps on the zx450 and both input and rail caps on the zx350. Been jamming for about 2months now. Now to the issues. I need to find out where to...

Re: Ti and R series PG sub torture tests

Interestingly enough, I blew one of my Ti2 10's a couple weeks ago. I have four of them running off an Elite.1 that sees a clean 15 volts, so I figure they are getting every bit of 3,000 watts rms. I just made it down to my dealer's yesterday thinking I was going to be buying a new sub, because blo...

Believe it or not I like to use Neverdull polish. The cotton wadding impeded with polish. It cleans up my white ZX gear without harming the silk screening. Try it on the back panel first.

Re: Power Issue?

Glad to see this thread. Ive been getting recommendations from different places.

Some like, XS power and mechman, recommended a starting batt up front and deep cycle in rear.

Kinetic and some local shops recommended both be deep cycle.

Ive decided to go with 2 deep cycle batts just be safe.

Re: momstang rebuild begins.

Another old timers trick is to drape a chain over the rear axle or bolt it to frame and let the ends lay on the concrete to help statically ground the car. My great grandpa said it helped keep dust from being drawn into the paint while its drying. I dont know if it works or not,but I figure what can...

Re: momstang rebuild begins.

If you still have wheels/tires from donor car.I would put those on before you take it.

If possible Id remove the door handles, locks and outer door window belt strip seals. And anything else you want to make sure they get paint under instead of being masked off, just in case.

Thermal compound? There wasnt any before. I have some Artic Silver 5 high density polysynthetic silver thermal compound left over from a Xbox 360 repair will this work? Im assuming you put a thin layer over the entire bottom surface of each fet, like you do when you replace a module on a HEI distribu...

I got most of the parts to fix my amps. Do I need to replace the pink insulator strips that go under the fets? If so where can I find them? Thanks.

Plus now Im running a DVD player( not to mention now he wants me to add a PS3). So Ill need the surround speakers. This "old school" install is turning into a mobile theater. :( Nah, I wouldn't do that at all. Wait til the fall and get a PS4. :D We are getting a PS4 for the home theater. ...

Im going all active first to see how that sounds. A lot depends on how much you care about the rear passenger's listening experience. The more I measure the more I am beginning to realize there is not gonna be any room for rear passengers, lol. Ive just about decided to cut and paste the front to the...

Re: momstang rebuild begins.

Good deal.Did you keep some of the panels to practice welding on?

Practice makes perfect!

Funny thing about fire extinguishers is you rarely ever need them, but seems like that one time you do.They are dead.

'75? Guess that makes us the same age, lol.
