Re: GMC safari install
Ricky, I am not due to the limited height over the amps (max height is 8 inches over the amps. Min height is 3 inches) since its going in the hightop bulkhead where the tv used to be.. Pretty much, no one will see this install ever. (A shame, but at least I know it looks nice)

GMC safari install
I figured I would start on a build thread for my safari. it's a 94 ext with the limited hightop package by explorer conversions. Since this van is a hightop, the amp rack is going above my head where the tv and vcr used to be (I will miss the Sega though. LOL). For a head unit, I will be using a pio...

Re: so did pg fall off earth or what?
I don't think it's the 16 year olds that would be buying Phoenix gold. It's Us, and our age range. They need to e marketing to the 25-45 age, those who knew PG back in the heyday of car audio but couldn't afford it. We are the ones who have the money to buy the higher end stuff now. Even more, PG h...

mounting amps upside down?
I was wondering if it is safe to mount amps upside down, and if so, do I need fans on them? the amps in question are an m100 and xs6600 bridged down to 4 channels (both running 4 ohm load per channel). if possible, i would love to mount them upside down recessed into the headliner of my hightop van ...

selecting equipment for my build
my old van got totalled thanks to some asshat who fell asleep and crossed the center line. So I picked up a new van for work. 1994 gmc safari high top conversion and the stereo system ummm....sucks. old Kenwood HU (not horrible but probably getting chucked), factory (blown) front speakers and Kenwoo...

Re: Sound Board
How do you make the wiring look so clean? What do you do for mounting the wires and routing them so tight? How do you attach wires to each other when they run side by side so they stay properly spaced? (Sorry for the questions, but I can't figure out how to make an install look super clean)

Re: Ignition tapping trouble, could really use some help!
I would run a switched power off the head unit switched (ignition) power feed. I would then put it to a relay that is turned on by the antenna/ amp turn on lead.

Re: Help with ideas for a center console build
That's kinda what I was figuring as far as cooling. I will be making the console from scratch, so I am open for whatever design wise. I was figuring on a rear firing sub (my van doesn't have a dividing wall as it is a conversion with the back bench pulled.) Also, given enough my amps pull a max of 8...

Help with ideas for a center console build
I am building a center console for my work van (95 astro) and am looking for ideas on how to make better use of the space I have in it. Basically, I have to contain an equalizer (pg 215ix), crossover (audiocontrol 4xs), 3 amps (since I don't have any spare 4 channels), and a subwoofer (IDQ 10 v1) wh...

Nah, I'd be afraid of scuffing it- to be honest
I wonder if it was maybe made for a show display, and if it has matching amps somewhere?

1995 chevy astro system
I recently purchased a 1995 chevy astro (conversion) as a work truck. While it is great as a work/ play vehicle, the factory system blows chunks. one front speaker only plays highs, the other front speaker sounds like garbage and makes weird noises on bass notes, and the rear 4x10s have no dynamic r...

Re: picked up 2 SA soundstreams and a pioneer DSP
Eric, I'll take your advice. The only reason I was thinking about changing them is for longevity/ reliability. I wasnt thinking about it from a performance standpoint. And yeah, theyre in excellent shape. One has a light scratch on a couple screwholes (cant see it unless you get really really close,...

picked up 2 SA soundstreams and a pioneer DSP
Yesterday morning, while looking on CL, I came across a guy selling 2 SA series soundstreams. He was asking 140 for the pair and they looked pretty clean. They were about 1 hour round trip away from me though, so I almost didnt call on them. I finally called him up last night (after I got off work) ...

Re: picked up some more OS car audio
I got around to taking it apart. No markings at all on the board, and only a number (production related?) on the bottom. Oddly enough, the FETs are not connected to the outer heatsink. they are held with plastic fasteners to T shaped pieces of aluminum that don't touch the case. http://i987.photobuc...

Re: picked up some more OS car audio
According to the guy I bought the stuff from, this is a late 70s pioneer amp. Since it doesn't say anywhere on the amp what it is, I can't verify that.
