OK - got more pics... I don't think you can see from the top - but a pic of the top side of the new caps is below as well. http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z166/denislphoto/DSC01115.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z166/denislphoto/DSC01114.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z166/denislp...

Replacing caps and resistors... I screwed up

Hi... It's been a while since I was asking advise how to fix my M44 and M50, well I finally got around to it and am now worried. I replaced all the power caps and big DC caps as well as those resistors which looked like they got pretty hot. Of the 30 or so solder connections I made on the back of th...

Could I run my front components in parallel to drop them to 2 ohms and get 110WRMS out of my front channels?

Would that give me 110WRMS front and 110WRMS rear since the rears are already 2ohms?

M44 Speaker ohm question

Are there any issues if I run 4 ohm components on my front channels and 2 ohm coax on the rear channels? Would I just lower the rear gain to compensate for the additional power?

Or could I run the front components in parallel to drop them down to 2 ohms on one channel?

Thanks.

Cecil.... Wow, thank you for the tour of Silicon Valley. I had a great time. It's amazing to experience the valley from the perspective of someone who's lived the rise and fall cycles of the valley and to share all that history with me. That was really awesome. I think we blew through a tank of gas!...

Hey C - I happen to be in San Jose for work and walked into a FRY's electronics... WOW! We don't have them on the east cost. I was like a kid in a candy store.. Anyway.. I happen to find 2W & 1W 330 ohm resistors except they're +/-2% not 5%. They look just like the ones in my amps except a last ...

At 4 ohms bridged it's rated at 200 WRMS.

So I shoud look for a sub rated at 200WRMS (not peak)?

I'm not looking to rattle the neighbors windows... just some crisp bass with depth. If I can do it with a 10" that's fine too. And, since I can get a good deal on harman products, I'd prefer a JBL or Infinity sub. And, I'd like to power my system including 6.5" components, 6.5" coaxle...

Could I dedicate my M44 to the sub and use the M50 to run the components? Not sure how / if the M44 can be setup to run a single sub (dual voice coil)...

What about the infinity kappa perfect 12dvq?

I'd like to use either a JBL or Infinity sub (discounted prices)..

Can my M50 run this?

I'm wondering what kind of sub I can run with my M50 once she's all new again... Back in the day I ran 2 kicker solo-barics... But I'm sure things have since changed.. http://www.jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=W12GTI%20MKII&Language=ENG&Country=CA&Region=USA&cat=SUB&am...

Thanks again C.. So I have all my parts.

One last (yea right!) question..
My new 330omh resistors are considerably smaller then the ones currently in the amp... Is this okay or are they wrong?

I was hoping to take advantage of a new resistors longer leads and raise them up a bit... can I use some of the lead wire from the new caps and solder extensions on the old resistors to raise them up?

C - I did. I just went through every distributer on findchips.com and none of the results matched. I then went to each of the sites and searched for a 5W 91ohm metal film resistor and nothing. If you found it can you shoot me the link? Also - for my edification... A 9.10K resistor is 9100 ohms right...

I will definately use RTV. My recap job will be performed exactly as you (and Doc) meticuliously outlined. Your experience and willingness to share it is very generous and I'm extremely grateful. I only wish I was able to find the 6800uf caps at a reputable seller... If you find a part number anytim...

C - I just checked both amps and the caps are 10uf on both so I should be good. Just curious.... what is the function of the large caps I'm replacing? Do they have anything to do with the sound quality? Does this do what an external 1farad cap would do (but obviously not on the same scale) ? If so t...

C - I have everything on your list except wick which I'll get. One more quick question... This is your quote from another thread: You will find these near the big resistors located in the power supply section, They are the 100 ufd caps rated at 25 volts. If you check these while the amp is running y...

They'll probably take a few days to arrive and I'm heading to Cali next week for work so when I get back my parts should be waiting for me to be installed.
