Re: Zx350 OVL then Steady Green after cap repair

Overload led for a few seconds and then green led is normal startup behavior. The o/l led is lit while the poweramp is muted during power up. This is to keep any pops or thumps from hitting the speakers. The amp can easily overload a small DC power supply. You can run a more stout supply and either ...

Re: Bass cube remotes and ebay's new selling rules...

Yeah, they are already charging sales tax on stuff whether it's new, used, or otherwise and then they want to get income tax too. We've given this ridiculous government way to much power. I'm not sure whom the taxes are helping, but it's not me. Most middle class Americans already have about a 38% t...

Re: 15F Ti Powercore 66.6F upgrade for a client

I believe I have one spare case. I was planning to use it to make one to sell to help fund my insanity. I'm not 100% sure where in my empire of dirt it resides though, so don't count on it until I can dig for it a bit. Keep your fellers out for one just in case... Hahaha, see what I did there? Case,...

Re: 15F Ti Powercore 66.6F upgrade for a client

I made a bit more progress on these over the last few days. I had a feedback from a few people that they did not like the unobstructed view of the yellow supercaps. I designed a 3d printer bracket that allowed me to reinstall the original grate baffle above the caps. This also has to be filled and t...

Re: 15F Ti Powercore 66.6F upgrade for a client

What would you charge for this? Sorry Scott, I forgot to reply to your question. The cost of parts has been fluctuating a lot due to the new Asian import duties, but as of right now they are about $250 provided one sends me the case to make the mods and fit the new module. I'm finding that when a l...

Yes, I do take repairs from all over the US and I have a few clients outside North America as well. I have a tremendous amount of backlog right now though and have been actively turning down new work and clients for a while. If you would like to pm, I'll give you details on how to get on my wait lis...

I'm extremely backlogged at the moment, but I'm glad you like those earthquakes and that you were able to work out a deal with my good friend Yusef. Just so you know, only one of those two earthquakes were completely gone through from stem to stern (the one that is in nearly flawless condition, it h...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

I forgot to reply with books I've found useful. Pretty much anything by the author Randy Sloan or Douglas Self. I have multiple books by both authors. Both authors write on the theory, principles and design of poweramps and preamps. Neither one will go into much detail about power supply design, and...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

BTW, I don't believe I've ever worked on a xs4300, so it's possible I'm incorrect about those diodes not being stock. They're should be at least 4 more mosfets somewhere for the other channels, and they may actually be there under the crossover board. Normally in the tantrum amps, and I've fixed ple...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

The guide perry sells is not the same as the free website. The guide he sells goes step by step through every piece of information you need to fix nearly any amplifier. The bcae website is more of a primer on car audio in general. The guide is the equivalent of going to trade school to learn how to ...

Bass cube remotes and ebay's new selling rules...

Hey guys, for a long time I've been selling bass cube remotes as well as zpaxos and some other odds and ends on ebay. Mostly by request anymore because I don't have a lot of spare time. Even though I haven't listed for a while, people still find my old auctions and message me though there. Hopefully...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

You are missing the point. Switching power supplies in automotive amplifiers are basically the same across virtually every make model and power, only the scale changes. The basics that you are missing, are things like how to recognize what parts of the amplifier do which jobs, how to properly identi...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

I just went back and looked at your pictures more closely and I noticed that 3 of the channels have diodes fitted in place of outputs. Are these the mosfets you replaced, or did you replace the power supply mosfets that we told you were going to need replaced? If you didn't replace the power supply ...

Pain in the ass, but I found it. The one on the *left* is the only style that can be used in a linear amplifier unless it was specifically designed to run the new next gen parts.

Re: XS2300 Blk Repair

Most times devices in the do-41 package that are not diodes are RTDs. Pg did not often use them in their designs, but in the xs and tantrum amps they used a 10k NTC RTD as part of the bias control circuitry. I cannot tell from the picture if these are RTDs, but their circuit designation will be &quo...

Re: Phoenix Gold RBCF Remote Bass Level Controller Wiring Re

Please upload a picture of the modular end of the cable. Take it from above so I can see which colors are in which positions. These level controllers are not the same as the bass cube and they bring one of the 15v supply rails out to knob. There is a chance you've already done permanent damage to th...

15F Ti Powercore 66.6F upgrade for a client

Here's another quick one. A few years back I designed a 66.6F replacement supercap board for the leaky 15F alumapro modules in the ti powercores. I've had one assembled for more than a year and running reliably in my daily shop. The same client I did the other ti amps for also sent me a powercore fo...

Re: XS2300 Blk Repair

Your rails all sound to be correct. The ±15v rails are zener regulated and will be a little "loose" at idle. Once there is a bit of load while driving the preamp, I suspect they will drop down closer to where they belong. You could try replacing the pair of zeners, they possibly are leaky,...

Well, you guy wanted me to post up some repair threads, but not long after I posted that I started mostly only getting zed amps in for some reason, and since I don't find them interesting, inspired, or even ask that decent sounding. I had one client who asked me to do some custom work to a pair of t...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

That's a question I do not have time to fully answer, but in short, once you make repairs power the amp with a current limited supply. For this amp it should power up with as little as 2a available. Monitor current while it powers up. I personally monitor current any time an amp is powered on my ben...

Re: Help have an issue with an elite .5

A faulty gain pot can cause a lot of odd symptoms, but I've never heard one cause "warbling". Regardless, the link below should be a suitable replacement. It's a 9mm dual gang 50k "audio"(log) taper pot. In a pinch you can use a linear pot for this application, but since a suitab...
