Re: Was this a good deal?

Nobody has bought or heard the kind of deals people are getting on the new amps? This place really is all about the old school.

Was this a good deal?

Just picked up a Ti800.4 for $400 new at a dealer. Just curious if this was good or average or what.

Oh, ok. I figured there had to be something else in there. The fuse part is only on the one end. My truck doesn't have a ton of space, but I guess I will just stuff it in there somehow.

Can I get rid of this thing?

So I am looking at the wiring harness for my Alpine 9887 and it has an enormous inline fuse thing. Is there anything else that the little brick does? Can I just replace it with a normal inline fuse of the same amperage?

Take a look at the Kenwood Excelon x592. If you are interested, I have one BNIB that I would sell for $115 shipped to cont. US.

Edit- here I will save you some trouble.

Alright that was kind of what I was thinking.

What about the 4 channel Ryval? They aren't too expensive. Are they good sounding amps?

I might do a RSD, but I can only fit the 300.4 in the space I have and it might also be a little short on power. Any thoughts there?

Good way to go active?

OK I currently am running my mb quart mids/highs with the included passive x-over using a X200.2. I bought an Alpine 9887 that is waiting to be installed and have been thinking that if I had a 4 channel amp I could do active using the deck x-over. Everyone raves about how much better it sounds. Is i...

It's bolted to the back wall and I doubt there is enough room for my amps. But yeah that would be ideal. My jack is under the pass front seat which helps. I don't know, I guess I'll have to look and maybe someone on one of the F150 boards has done it. I may have to use something more compact than th...

Its a 99 F150. Every place I have looked you either have one sub or have to use the entire area across under the rear seat. Usually with a lift of 2" or something. I have my amps under there and I don't know where I would put them if I couldn't use that place.

OK, well now I don't know what to think. The rest of what I have is a pair of old school MB Quarts and the x200.2s. My subs are JL 8w0s- don't laugh, it was hard to find anything that would go under the back seat in my truck without jacking the seat way up. Some days I wish I did raise it up more so...

The TEQs are in-dash. I'm not even going to think about trying to mess with a 15 band EQ. Thats just too much adjustability.

Hell, maybe I need to just buy an Alpine 9887 and let it do its own thing...but the X592 was so cheap. I couldn't resist trying one.

I may be old...well, actually I am, but I prefer knobs to scrolling through menus and settings and all that for doing this sort of thing. Does soundstream make good stuff these days? I know back in the early 90s they did but I never owned any. As far as the LPL...too many gizmos!! If I can do it wit...

The EQ's also have a line driver
I like PG stuff but the Clarion also has sub level control that the PGs don't. Decisions, decisions.

Well, thats ok. I have 2 amps and each is a 2 channel, so I probably don't need any more than that. Unless for some crazy reason I decide to swap one out for a 4 channel and run my 6s and tweeters seperately. Uh oh!! Better stop thinking about it... There was a guy on here I thought about ge...

Well, I was thinking one of the PG TEQ models or Clarion also makes/made a 7 band. Any of these list around $200 but can be had for < $75. They all will raise voltage up to 7-8V too.

Any thoughts on one of those models? The 3 band on the x592 seems a little less useful.

GaryJ So if the bottom part is not removable, just cut it out or something It should be.....it should just be screwed on Well I went out and pulled it out of the dash again. The kit is all one piece from top to bottom. I'll see how the one looks that comes with the deck this week. I don't think the...

Looking at my pic above, I don't think there is a 1/2 DIN worth of space under the deck with that top part as thick as it is. Maybe the one that is coming with the deck will work...here it is.

The nice thing is I have the one in the pictures and the x592 is coming with this one as well. So I guess if I screw one of them up, I can always try the other one.... :D

OK- more dumb questions! I could have started a new thread, but this one has the pics in it already, and I'm lazy... Lets say I wanted to add a deck like a Kenwood x592 and also wanted to add an EQ to go with it. Do they make different install kits to put a 1/2 DIN EQ in with the deck or do you just...

dako, did/do you use IMPRINT or do you just do your own tuning? If you use it, what do you think of it? And one more thing, I'm having trouble seeing the advantage of having the crossover on the deck as opposed to using the on on my xenons other than it is more handy to have it there. Is there somet...

I think the last good HU's that Alpine made were the CDA-7995 CDA-7998 Whats the problem with the new stuff? the 9887 has a few more features, which may or may not be beneficial for you, depending on your setup. 9887 has built in media expander, and a more complex active crossover system. i believe...

Anyone use the Alpine 9886?

I did a search and didn't get much. The title pretty much says it all. I was looking at it vs. the 9887 and the only difference I can tell is that IMPRINT is an add on to the 9886 but is included on the 9887. Once IMPRINT is added, the two have the same specs, its seems. The 9886 also has USB, which...

Alright, I'll see what damage I can do. And when I say that, I'm not kidding- me and plastic don't get along well. I assume I need to take the outer panel off and then maybe the install kit can be removed?
