Re: Another custom amp-- need opinions

I think I have a CAD model of a Reactor shell. I know I have one of a ZX950 chassis. I had plans to build a ZX900 (two ZX450s in one chassis), and considered doing it in a Reactor case. I even acquired the two ZX450 boards for the project. So, if you need any CAD for any of these projects, let me kn...

Re: eq215x repair

I have never seen a PG processor without the top of the transformer core. I am pretty certain it will not function correctly with only half of its core, there would be no path for the magnetic flux to travel.

Re: Homemade Bookshelf Speakers

All I can say is WOW! I better not let my wife see those, she will want a pair. She has slowly been acquiring stuff to put in a future log home, and these would end up on her target list. I highly suggest you check out this site for your next project... http://www.diysoundgroup.com/ You could put so...

Time.

I have a new, never seen power since the factory, ZX amp that needs new caps.

Re: Too much power?

In your photo there looks like wood pieces, or some part of the box right behind the sub. Is the other side of the box the same as this?

I don't know if this has been asked, but are the subs sharing a common air volume, or is each in its own space?

Re: Too much power?

I am not pointing any blame here, but just posting some general information. A "roasted" coil is not a sign of a defective sub. Sub defects would be a misaligned coil (so it rubs), glue separation of spider to basket, or surround to basket, loose tinsel leads that break off, etc. A coil ge...

Re: Finally bought a smartphone

I found out yesterday if I plug the phone into my work PC it comes up just like a USB thumb drive would, so that is the easiest way to get the photos and videos off the phone.

Re: Finally bought a smartphone

Thanks for the tips. I have already been finding I need a better way to get photos off the phone to my computer. Especially as I want to get photos on to my work PC, and I don't want to put iTunes on it just to do so.

Finally bought a smartphone

My 10 year old Motorola flip phone was starting to show its age, so after lots of convincing from my wife I decided to buy a smartphone. I bought an iPhone 7 and am slowly getting used to it. My wife has been trying to get me to text message (my old phone did not support that), but I am not too sure...

I don't think you need to worry about any of those caps. They are not the ones well known for failing.

Please take some photos of the caps (smaller ones) near the power input terminals of the amplifier.

Re: xs amps recap

If you post a photo of the circuit board, we can tell you. There are several amps around that age which do not require a cap change. There are also some amps which do if they have certain caps, and don't if they have others.

Re: my XS2500 Project

It will function in the back, but it is not accomplishing what you really want it too. The goal of a line driver is to reduce "hiss" or other background noise from the system, by increasing the signal-to-noise ratio on the critical (and often long) RCA cable run from the front of the vehic...

Re: my XS2500 Project

You may want to consider moving the AudioControl line driver up to the front of the vehicle, near the head unit. It is not doing anything being mounted in the back.

Re: Power supply for using PG MS at home.

I am guessing if you are going to run 4 MS275s high pass, you could get away with a single 50A supply. I ran a MS1000TA off a 30A supply to a pair of home speakers and played it at ear bleeding levels with no issues. The only reason I mention this is maybe the fans in those HP supplies are somewhat ...

Re: Power supply for using PG MS at home.

Mine don't have any hum. They are switching supplies, not transformer based, so they likely switch at a frequency higher than I can hear. I have run them for hours with the fans off, so I don't have any issues with the fan noise which would clearly be an issue if you sit right next to them (as I do)...

Re: Power supply for using PG MS at home.

I use some of these... https://www.audioauthority.com/product_details/978-100 And am very happy with them. They are reasonable on eBay. The internal fan is somewhat loud, so I put it on a switch to bypass it. For constant use, I would suggest a slower and quieter fan. The stock fan is sized assuming...

Re: mps2500 vs ms2250

You should know Eric, the MS2250 has bigger power supply toroids and better cooling than the rest of the big MS/MPS amps. I think the dyno run vids show quite clearly that a MS2250 can do about double RMS and dynamic power compared to the rest. Those are good points, but really the size of the tran...

Re: mps2500 vs ms2250

The MS2250, MS2125, MAC500, and MPS2500 should all be the same power, depending on load. They are all the same design, and in the same heatsink. The only one with any advantage is the MS2250, which has power supply MOSFETs with slightly more current capability. Honestly, I think the output section i...

Re: Elite amplifier gain setting

All people are capable of mistakes, and either that email is a mistake, or at the very least a misunderstanding. If you wish to precisely match your gains you can do so with a load if you do it (AT REDUCED POWER). For example, say the PG chart says you need 20V of output. Go ahead and remove the spe...

Re: Elite amplifier gain setting

I disagree and so does PG. Without a load there is no way you would get an accurate reading. I will most look for power resistors the proper impedance to set gains. So in a round about way what you are saying is that anyone who purchases an Elite amplifier needs to also purchase load resistors so t...

Re: Elite amplifier gain setting

You would want to set the gain with no load. If you connect your speakers to the amp at full power with a sine wave, you will either blow the speakers, or the amp, or the voltage would drop on the input so great, you would not get an accurate reading anyway.
