Re: charging an old yellow top
i just hope it will accept some kind of charge if so at the very least i could use it with my power supply just for added power. but if it does'nt i wont cry to much as a phoenix friend of mine gave it to me just for hooking up a system. the thing is i don't want to buy another charger for it and t...

Let's get it as OEM as you can. For this one I would like it to be as close to original as possible.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Potentiometer Rebuilding (Not for the faint of heart)
I am confident they can be cleaned, but my concern is finding a good grease to use once they are clean. The contacts need something to protect them from oxidation, however, it cannot be conductive (conductive would defeat the whole use of the pot). Couldn't you use dielectric grease? There are lots...

Re: keep blowing fuses - HELP
How much distance are we talking here? Wire to exhaust, that is. not sure i follow your question. the section that is bad is very close to the firewall. the overall length for me to replace would be a full 17' or 18', whatever comes in the AKIT1. (it's in a 97 expedition) Sorry for my vagueness. I ...

Re: Help Finding replacement power supply transformer
I just went through this with an MS2125. It does look like yours shorted. The easiest way to fix it is to get one from a donor amp and solder it in. Otherwise you can rewind yours but it is a lot of work and very time consuming. Kind of fun though if you are up for a challenge. Here is my thread. ht...

Re: keep blowing fuses - HELP
You can fix it as you mentioned. Of course we all like as few connections and disruptions along our wires as possible. You don't want to replace the length, but it is really the best way to do it. I don't think I need to say it, but make sure your wire is tightly secured and at a safe distance from ...

Re: keep blowing fuses - HELP
If you have a meter, measure for continuity to ground on the amp side of the fuse holder "before" replacing the fuse. This way you can diagnose without blowing any more fuses. i have an analog meter but do not know how to use it. go ahead and make fun of me, it's ok  on my way to yo...

Well, it is finished. My most excellent friend Phil came by yesterday with a power supply and silly scope to test it out. And, it works. 340 watts per channel into two ohms. Woo hoo! My first more serious electronics repair, successful. I still don't understand it all but I can replace parts!
