Re: PG Amplifier Gain Testing Experiment
It is true that an amplifier is a fixed source of gain. The gain control on the amplifier is to match its input to its preamp section. An amplifier can only do so much output, before it starts to clip. This is regardless of the input gain or the input signal strength. Say for example we have an amp...

Re: PG Amplifier Gain Testing Experiment
Why would an amp run with less effort or cooler with more line signal voltage? I am not disagreeing with you, I just would like to know your reasoning on this. If you are referring to the supply voltage to the amp (like 14.4V vs 12.6V), the amplifier would be more efficient at 14.4V than it would b...

Re: PG Amplifier Gain Testing Experiment
Just to clarify, I appreciate the work you put into testing stuff and putting good info up for everyone and it is certainly helpful to people, myself included. In this particular case I just consider a few factors including the one you're demonstrating. Nice work nonetheless.

Re: PG Amplifier Gain Testing Experiment
Eric, I'm not sure if this is in response to any posts I've made but here's my thoughts since you asked for them. As a forward: I don't dispute your results or methodology, I never have. In my OPINION, the test doesn't matter all that much TO ME. I don't have test equipment in my car when I'm listen...

Re: Line driver for ZX?
I mean, we always talk about the signal level as if it's a fixed value, but in reality it is constantly changing, and at the same volume you would get different voltages at different frequencies. This is, imo, the best way to look at it. Its impossible to say at "X" preamp signal voltage ...

Re: Pg warrenty
Pg replied twice saying they do not repair or sell recone kits. Which kind of pisses me off. If the elite subs at $450 retail are a disposable driver. They should make sure people are aware. Offer a recone like most all other high end companies. And again this is a brand new sub. Sent from my iPhon...

Re: Pg warrenty
@Drock I agree with kg, if you are comfortable doing it, I'd take it apart and take pics or even better take video of the process and the parts that failed. If nothing else, you can shed some light on the true material and build quality of the thing. If its a clear and obvious defect there is the sm...

Re: Pg warrenty
Good luck. I know my last email took a while, but they did respond. They blew me off too lol, but they did respond. I've always felt like for me, the reason I buy an expensive high end model vs lower quality is both the superior performance and the fact that higher end electronics, historically are ...

Weird I just put a dmm on the coils and the both measure good. I can push the cone in and out, but it stays in or out like there is tight friction. Like something is holding the coil. I've never worked on a sub so I guess this will be the time to learn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Its possib...

Re: 4ch bridged to 2ch - will imaging suffer?
If you google it there are diagrames how to bridge an amp stereo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think his issue is more how to do it with only one set of inputs to the amp. Normally I would say just use both front and rear outs since he's not using them with no rear fill anyway, so both left...

Re: 4ch bridged to 2ch - will imaging suffer?
Imaging won't suffer. The amps doesn't "know" left from right, front from rear. It has 4 channels at x watts, now it will have 2 channels at approximately twice the power. You just need to make sure your signal goes to the proper inputs. I'm not familiar with that amp, some will accept si...

Re: Help me with burnt board/$35 ms275
Valeks, is this just for the ZX or for the ZX-ti's as well? I ask because I've notice my ZX'ti's have the same 100k ohm resistor....Haven't checked the TI's but am sure their 100k as well. Yeah mine went in for the V2 upgrade when the original owner blew it up and I got it from him when it was fini...

Re: How close does a line driver need to be?
If someone's system is louder with a line driver than without, then they are likely just using the line driver to send an amplifier further into clipping, or they did not have the gain properly set prior to installing the line driver. I have to respectfully disagree with you guys, though your theor...

Re: Help me with burnt board/$35 ms275
Replace two resistors with 1/8 Watts 100 ohms 5% Valeks my question is every zx schematic I can find shows those as 100k (pretty sure, I haven't traced the melted spot one back yet but it appears to go to ground.) I have some 100 ohm 1/8 watt here so it would make my life way easier but im just won...

i would not worry about a blown diode or leaking caps.... i've bought worser damaged amps before.... take out the burned components/leaking caps and clean up the board..... don't forget to put in new silpads on the ms amp..... when you think you're finished, please always start to power the amp up ...

I got this off a craigs list ad from a guy that lived a couple hours away, he sold it to me as-is for $35 shipped and so far I'm not complaining. Clearly the caps have puked a bit. There is also a blown diode near the caps...any idea what could cause that? I also noticed, and you can just barely tel...

Help me with burnt board/$35 ms275
So I finally got around to recapping this zx350, and removed the 2 roasted resistors while I was at it. I don't know what to do now, is this something I can work around/address easily? Appreciate any input on that. I didn't want to start 2 threads so I'll show off my ms275 and ask for help with that...

Re: How close does a line driver need to be?
I doubt the processors are actually measuring the signal to noise ratio and saying they are high/bad as much as just complaining about too hot of a signal but I have not worked with them personally. I know that they do a number of different digital eq/signal gain/volume processes and I have no idea...

Re: MEMORY LANE -- Where did you start?
I wish I had pics of mine. I had a 1993 Grand Cherokee, in 96 or so I bought a freshly back from PG w/ V2 upgrade ZX350 from a buddy for a good deal. Another buddy worked at Best Buy so he got me a Sony CDXC660 on his discount which was 50% off retail back then. Not a super high end player but that ...

Nice Ajaye. Sweet deal on the MS275 and the Alpine. Alpine HU + PG MS series = two great combinations. I don't know anything about that model Alpine but for that price, I don't think you could have gone wrong? That's exactly what I thought. Its not a homerun but its better than my current preamp+ip...

Re: How close does a line driver need to be?
@Scott. Just curious, are you not using the elite amp? Why would you need a line driver? The elite can make full power at 200mv. My h/u is 4v out but the ms8 knocks signal down to 2.4v. I wanted to use a line driver to bump it back up, but Morgan said there was no need. Sent from my iPhone using Ta...

Re: CES 2014 News
Guys this is 2014, not 1994, CES is extremely expensive to attend. The days of massive booths at CES for car audio (amps/speakers) companies are over. In fact, most of the other large names in Car Audio do not exhibit on the show floor. The PG displays and setup of the booth is targeted toward maki...
