Re: ZPA 0.5 control board problem

R29 and R32 burned most likely due to the main rectifiers being out of circuit and the amp being powered up. A lot of power gets dissipated across them if the main rails are down. They normally only see a potential of ~10V, with the main rails down they see about 70v. CR13 and CR14 are there zener d...

I don't, but I do still make and sell reproduction remotes.

I should add, the 4 channel versions of this amp did not use the same regulation scheme for the ±15v rails.

Re: Zx600 ti

Sorry, I missed this question. The two diodes are part of the ±15v supply. There is a second parallel zener on the top of the board. The zeners clamp the rail voltage at ±33v to take a little bit of load off of the linear ±15v regulators this amp uses. In later revisions of the board, both parallel ...

Please consider helping Perry Babbin

I realize that this isn't technically supposed to be in this section, but since it's pretty much our only active part of the board here, I'm posting it here. I don't normally even read these GoFundMe posts, but the picture of the Stentorian caught my eye. I know I have a lot of friends in the car au...

Re: ZX500 going into overload

This is the part number for the cables in the newer zxti and ti amps. They make them in both plastic and paper. The plastic ones are a little more robust, but if you don't take the amp apart a lot, the paper ones are cheaper and work fine. These are 10 conductor ribbons. If memory serves the newer a...

That heat sink will work, but you'll have to drill the center hole. The style is technically meant to mount under a to-3 transition

Re: Titanium 600.2 Help Needed

There are multiple different screw lengths used to secure the isolation plates and heat sinks. Probably the po just jammed them in every which way. My personal favorite is when they run the long ones in over the peer supply and drive them down into the board... There is no shortage of stupid around....

I believe that the part number on that thread is still valid. If it isn't, lmk, and I'll get you the number I've been using. In the thread we talked about how to relube the pots after cleaning. I've been using Dow Corning dielectric great that I recommended in that thread. It works great. You should...

Re: Zx450 sensitivity pot

The pots are not available. I can point you toward a pot with the same pin layout, but the ones used in the zx amps have a electrical pinout that is backwards of what is still available. You can use parts from a new pot to rebuild an old pot. I'm pretty sure Eric D had a write-up on here. It's also ...

Re: ZX500 going into overload

Sorry for the long delay, I was out of town. Cr22 and cr40 are half of the diodes which make up the rectifiers for the auxiliary rails. These diodes as well as their associated snubber networks (R120-123 & C42-43 & C63-64) will get extremely hot if the amp is run with the main rectifiers out...

I've never been able to find the stock jacks anywhere. Switchcraft makes some that are super close, however the stock jacks have a separate shield connection for each Jack. It shouldn't necessarily hurt anything to use the available ones that have a combined shield, as 99% of source units have the s...

Re: ZX500 going into thermal

Not necessarily, the fan and all the protection circuitry all runs off 12v DC. Normally when the power supply fails all the mosfets short drain to source. The problem comes when someone has it fail and the amp was not fussed or not properly fused. In this case the mosfets can blow open after failing...

Hello Jason! You are the man. I did a quick test on the output's but non of them have a short. The amp puls almost no current just the red led is on. This weekend I continue with the repair. something else : do you know a good replacement for the 2SC2389 BJT? KSC2316/KSA916 are what I use. You'll h...

Re: ZX500 going into thermal

Also, I just realized that you said the red led is on. The red led is the overload indicator. The overload protection is based directly on output current flowing through the outputs. If it's actually showing an overload fault, then you likely have some shorted outputs. There are other reasons it cou...

They are #4-40 solder nuts. I believe you can get them from any of the electronics suppliers or McMaster Carr. They can be desoldered, but they are also splined and pressed into the fr4. If you get the solder of, they will press out pretty easily. You should also try to remove all the solder from th...

Re: ZX500 going into thermal

The two temperature sensor should be very low resistance at ambient temperature. They each are directly connected to ground in one end and iirc summed via a pair of 1n4148 diodes before the lm339 comparator which handles protection. Is the amp actually in thermal protection, or is the led just lit? ...

Re: EQ215x Not Powering Up

The eq has a switcmode power supply, just like any amplifier that's worth its salt. If the smps controller ic is switching, then it's not abnormal that the voltage is fluctuating on the 12v side of the toroidal transformer. If you switch your meter to ac, it's more than likely about 6v AC while refe...

Re: Attempting repair on a burned SA3.0X

Caps are widely available at all the major US distributors. If we are just talking power supply caps, you don't have to get the factory ratings. You can go higher in capacitance and rated voltage without causing any I'll effects. You want a cap with a low esr/esl, high temp rating (normally 105°), a...

Re: ideas behind the rise of the M series over the past 15 y

It's a complete mystery to me as well. M series are just anemic compared to most of PGs offerings. I have no reason why so many people go gaga for them. The poweramp hasn't changed, it's basically the same in everything from m series to zx, yet I routinely hear that the m series sounds so much bette...

No, I don't use rivets. There are other ways to fix damaged through hole. If it's a through hole location, I do a small hole near the damaged section. Form a new pad from a small piece of silvered wire and run it through the board to repair the damaged connection. Most times you can't even tell the ...

Unless I'm thinking of the wrong type, that particular style of pot is readily available. They are multiple single gang pots all ganged on a common shaft. These two capacitors perform very different jobs, but they are the same parts. Neither of these two should prevent the amp from working. C15 is part of a snubber network, the 103 is the only relevant info on these types of caps, the first two digits are the first two of the value, and the third digi...
