Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
Wow, it seems I missed a lot overnight. I will do my best to catch up. -Slot ports. They work the same as round ones. They have a cross sectional area and a length. I don’t understand why adding or removing length on a slot port is any different than doing it on a round one? I must be missing somet...

he could be richard clark, he could be dick clark, who would you expect to get better advice on audio from? When someone give instructions, advice, or help on the net it is nice to know if its richard or dick we are talking too.... My point is, it doesn't fucking matter who he is, it will not chang...

Re: Ported box size vs power handling
First we need to remember that the power handling of a sub (rms/peak ratings) is a thermal matter before mechanical. A sub's voice coil can only dissipate so much heat before glues start to melt and shit shorts out. So instead of looking at the enclosure, we need to look at impedance curves of speak...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
OK then, I have no problem amending my statement to 70% instead of 90% if it gets you and I to agree on something. Yes, again we agree on something. Yes you can just build a box and then port it, and tune it. There are two ways to do this. One is to calculate it. If you know the volume of the box, ...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
I mentioned before I build boxes to fit the space first. Either the space the customer is willing to give up, or a space which works well with the rest of their system (working around the constraints of an amp rack for instance, or using the spare tire well of a vehicle). At this point the enclosur...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
Eric, Unless I have an idea what the performance is going to look like ahead of time, there is always the chance it will disappoint me. Modeling those boxes shows me that chance is more of a certainty so I don't waste my time trying them. They are not designed for optimum performance, they are desig...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
Well, it is probably total car audio blasphemy, but if you want to leave little to chance, just go with the manufacturer recommended enclosures. Sure you won't get 100% performance this way, but I doubt you would get less than 90% performance. It does all depend on the way a manufacturer comes up w...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
Then we are in accord. As a profession, I prefer to leave as little to chance as possible and to keep the after-tuning as minor as possible to keep customers from having the ability to really screw shit up. (any more than usual anyway) In my own car I build many test enclosures, because that is the ...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
I am not trying to pick apart your argument, but this statement is well worth looking at. The transfer function does not remain constant, unless all environmental variables remain constant. If you switch from a 1cuft sealed box to a 2.5cuft ported one, the change in box volume will affect the cabin...

Don't worry bro. Believe me I dont, well maybe not for a few choice members (ignorance is bliss right?). I do worry for those who stumble into this thread wanting to learn, and it needs to be painfully clear what the truth is among all this BS. Ive always believed those who dislike ported enclosure...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
Thank you Shawn. Ttocs, higher margin of error = larger acceptable tolerances. Model a sealed box for a specific volume, say 1cuft gross. Now model another sealed box at 1.3cuft & 0.7cuft (+/- 30%), and you will see the difference in response will be tiny, and most likely in audible. A differenc...

Re: 3 way active
Usually the biggest hurdle is actively splitting the signal between the tweeter & midrange, because very few Xovers can be set high enough to operate a tweeter's range alone. The Ti amps can, so you just need to research where the best Xover points are for each speaker you have, and play around ...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
I don't think it's a matter of them being more suited for sealed, I think it's that sealed boxes have a much higher margin of error. Had your box been tuned a little lower that roll off would be lower and really reinforce that bottom octave. The difference between 50hz and 30hz on the ported is much...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
I've measured it a few times and what you see is a gain as freq drops, not exactly 12bd/oct but close. I have a graph created by andy at jbl that i can mail to you. If you would that would be great, Id love to check it out. Ive only tested a few cars for transfer response (with an Audiocontrol RTA)...

the hole looks pretty round also. i know, i know, holes are round. what i mean, is that when drilling holes in thin sheetmetal, you usually end up with a bit of a triangle hole. that looks awfull round, and the anodizing around the hole isn't tore up from chips whirling either. interesting. lol, th...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol
I'm gona chip in with my thinking. The reason that sealed boxes work rather well for sq applications is that the rolloff roughly matches cabin gain for a car. This leaves you with a roughly flat frequency response and low group delay. Now just in terms of freq response most ported boxes would leave...

Re: need some info
It should be possible as long as you gain match the amps, they won't all be identical but surely close enough to work fine. Use a tone generator to send a continuous 60hz signal to the amps, and while using a multimeter set to AC monitor the output voltage from each amp & adjust the gains so the...

do any of those programs give #'s on port noise or accuracy? Lol, youve been talking about group delay since the beginning ttocs, ya just didnt know it. Group delay is most definitely audible, and most definitely measurable. You have to remember that a bass note is not just s single tone but involv...
