Heads-up: Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader vulnerability...

There's been a fresh Adobe reader vulnerability released.

Bottom line? If you weren't expecting the PDF, don't open it!

More details and lots of links here: http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00001836.html

I think so. No way I would change a battery on a running car. Mine will retain most stuff for 30 mins or so, the tripmeter for 10 or so, I think, I can't remember.

First off neg off, then + and replace in that order. Shouldn't take long, depending on the state of the tie-downs.

the Ural is , but.. I'd prefer a Vista / 7 box. At least then I know I can change things.

Add in a M-Audio 1010LT on PCI and you have 8 outputs, too.

there isn't much out there, esp. for 3+sub. Ural. And that's almost a PC :)

Eclipse 7200II is apparently very, very good. But do you want to listen to radio?

so, updated the first post now I really understand how this works.

If you use high USM numbers, you can get a real illusion of focus back. Scary but true.

Also the sliders on color levels define just how much of the pic you'll sharpen - that's important.

home-made softbox

... well, I got around to it (no choice, I need it for the weekend, lots of portraits to do at a family event). It works. Really, really well. Very surprised. Following some ideas from around the web; 2 600mm long alu tubes, bent for around 45 degree angle top to bottom. 2 flats duct taped in place....

transport is still too cheap IMO for that to happen. Yes, there is a lot of "local champion" here and it's very cool to read just how enthusiastic the mags and reviewers and competitors get. For some reason, Denmark is the center of a lot of this and the Germans make a lot of goodwill from...

I spent 20 educational minutes in a store a couple of weeks back.. they had an offer on, a Thomson 32" for €300. Very nice deal. So I went in, they'd sold out. They were showing some bluray disc on the screens, and yes, I could see the difference between the 32 cheapies and the 50 with all the ...

I would do, except the one I tried this on last night failed miserably. And I don't understand why.

When I have a few spare hours again, I'll post up some examples.

smart sharpening...

This is with the GIMP. it's intensive, it takes a while, but the results are better than just using USM. Some jargon: USM : Unsharp Masking. If you haven't played with it yet, do so. It sharpens pics nicely. There are lots of ways of viewing colors. Aim here is to sharpen as necessary without introd...

yes, you have :D

you have to make time for some things - and if work is the thing that gives you the pennies to upgrade, then.....

Those last two also took around 20 minutes to sharpen using luminosity curves and channel masks. Urgh. I'll explain it in more detail when I have it 100% down pat.

if you really want to see the standard of comps in the EU, get yourselves over and check out an EMMA comp or two. I will try and find the vid from last year's finals, I think you might be surprised just how high the standard is.
