Here is an update on this amp… These photos were what it was. All sorts of parts are not correct, holes are stripped out, and 9 resistors were wrong, or just plain installed poorly. http://www.soundbuggy.com/Eric/Car%20Audio/phoenix_gold/m_series/outlaw_2/01.JPG http://www.soundbuggy.com/Eric/Car%20...

I would consider using Visio to draw things like this. It looks a heck of a lot more professional, and is very easy to do, or make changes too. My install was very simple, but there is no reason why you cannot expand the page size to get more in there… http://www.soundbuggy.com/Eric/Car%20Audio/my_c...

Update: The amp works! I still need to clean the board and tidy up some things with it, but I hooked it up and played some music for a bit. http://www.soundbuggy.com/Eric/Car%20Audio/phoenix_gold/ms_series/ms2250_repair/18.JPG http://www.soundbuggy.com/Eric/Car%20Audio/phoenix_gold/ms_series/ms2250_...

I intended to shut it down as no one posted any car audio related topics or discussion anymore. It became a hair salon, not a car audio forum. But, I put it back when a lot of people addressed the desire to look up old information. So, you are right, shutting it down was a direction, but I was think...

I became pissed off at one or two members and dug a deep hole bickering back and forth. I then became so frustrated with the whole ordeal I suggested closing the forum down. Stipud set this forum up and everyone migrated here, thus showing everyone’s distaste for me and my behavior. So in the end I ...

I am not the administrator of the forum, and really have no clue how to do anything to it, other than make it not work altogether. Joe is always busy, and I really don’t wish to bother him about this, as he is still very frustrated I ruined the forum in the first place. At this point, the search fea...

Modern parts (capacitors, resistors, transistors, diodes, etc) are WAY better than older parts. The issue these days is not the use of better or worst parts than back in the day, it is the “cookie cutter” amplifier designs, which often offer inferior performance compared to older amps. The best amps...

I bought a MS100TA. It measured 230W a channel into 4 ohms (sad, since this is under the factory rating of 250W). I replaced or remade the parts necessarily to make it exactly the same as an original MS1000. This got me to 330W or so a channel. It involved changing or adding around 50 components eac...

I booted my MS2250TA up to exact PG spec for an original MS2250. The only step I took beyond PG is the changing of one resistor value on the zanier feedback circuit to the optical isolator, which controls the final rail voltage of the amp. So, my amp was boosted only about 2V over that of an origina...

I may be dead wrong on this, but my findings have been that once the rail voltages have been modified, bias adjustment was not necessary. I took measurements before my mod and after, and nothing changed. This may have a lot to do with PG amps being unregulated. With the engine off, or on, you are ef...

I don’t know if you were directing that at me or not, but if you were, I am referring to the preamp section itself, not the power supply to the preamp section. I set my amp up for 15V still, but needed to change several values for the opamp feedback, and some tied to the gain and bass pots. As for t...

Back when I worked at Rockford, we did a lot of testing of Treo woofers (some of their models were direct competitors of ours), and we found them to be quite poor in both power handling, and performance. At rated power levels they would not last more than a few hours on power testing, something all ...

When you upgrade to a MS2250 from a lesser model, there is also the need for about 10-20 small parts being replaced in the preamp section. This is to correctly match the gains and bass control to the new level of output voltage. The amp will still work without these being changed (mine did at least)...

You can fix your first problem with a faster connection and a faster computer. Even my old computer on my slow connection loads complex things before I get a chance to start doing something else. Windows rocks. I don’t think it is as refined as Mac OS X, but it is highly customizable, and XP has not...
Some of the most unintelligent people I have met have PhDs. One of which I work with. Having a PhD does not make you intelligent or even knowledgeable. All it makes you is educated, and these days educated does not amount to a hill of beans in many cases. The smartest and most knowledgeable professo...

35mm high in a MS amp means the plexi or steel bottom will be touching it. I have some 35mm caps I took out of my MPS2500, and they will not fit in a MS275, which I find odd, considering both amps should have the same stackup. This may be because the MPS2500 board is naturally sagging due to the 35m...
