Re: Outlaw Repair

I use 5 minute epoxy, but I would think a slower setting epoxy would be better. Something slow could better seep into the windings and onto the core of the transformer. Keep in mind you don't want it leaking right on through and getting all over the board. I paint the epoxy all over the transformer....

It is normal for these 4 to get hot... http://www.soundbuggy.com/Eric/Car%20Audio/phoenix_gold/m_series/outlaw_3/Outlaw_22.JPG You can replace them with larger versions (which will help), but they will still probably get quite hot. I am pretty confident the sound you are hearing is not from the resi...

Sweet amp, and a sweet car. It looks like you are lucky to have survived.

I take it the S2000.1 was in the S2000? Did it survive?

Re: An Intro and a few questions

There is no effective way to clean the pots, they will need to be replaced. I have tried taking the pots apart on other PG amps and cleaning them, but the problem is never dirt and grime, it is wear on the conductive surface the wiper rides against. The ZPA series is great for nostalgia purposes, bu...

Re: Thoughts?? Blue Output Caps MS2125 and MQ430s

A desoldering iron is great for cleaning out stubborn vias filled with solder (sometimes wick just won't do it). It is bad for removing parts though. It leaves solder between the part and any portion of the via or trace it is touching. Then when you pull the part out you take a small piece of via wi...

The RCA's appear backwards on your high frequency amp (assuming that is what it is for).

Nice install.

also, that other cluster of 4 larger caps that are not panasonic were not leaking but they looked cheap so I replaced them as well. In total theres 4 rail caps, 6 input filter caps, and 4 of those other ones, not entirely sure what they are for. I am going to take a guess that the 1.5x has two powe...

Re: Bypassing crossover board in ZX450

Yes, you can bypass the crossover board. I suggest that instead, you just remove the pots and hard wire resistors in their place. If they are noisy, they will have to be removed at some point anyway. Can you post a photo of the corrosion you are referring too on the board? I am not sure it is really...

Re: Phoenix Gold Sapphire Amps

To start with, you should open them up when you get a chance, and post some high quality photos of the boards. From what I remember, some of the Sapphire amps have leaking caps and some do not. I don't remember for sure.

Re: Thoughts?? Blue Output Caps MS2125 and MQ430s

Covering them in blue heat shrink just for the sake of making them blue does not make any sense to me over using black, which will then have the proper documentation on the side of it (capacity, voltage, polarity, etc). So unless you plan on printing the proper info on the blue heat shrink, making t...

This is an interesting mod, but it would not increase or otherwise improve the output of the amplifier. Additionally, this is just my opinion, but I think it looks pretty ugly.

Re: xenon 100.4 left channels dont work

Even though the amp sounds OK bridged, that does not mean it is working bridged. If one channel is not working, an amp will still potentially play music bridged, but since you use both channels to bridge, you would only be getting half the normal bridged voltage (one quarter of the power). Yes, the ...

Re: rebuilding an OG ms1000 Nickel

I would not think heat would be a big concern for the foam. The transistors are only going to get as hot as the heatsink does, and even a "too hot to touch" heatsink is still likely much lower than the foam's melting point.

I think my MS1000TA had closed cell foam on the clamp bars.

Re: xenon 100.4 left channels dont work

If both left channels do not work, that might be an easy fix. The channels are independent of each other, aside from a few connections in the preamp section. You could be dealing with a bad combine switch, or bad configuration switch.

Re: Enclosure recommendtions

Generally speaking there are only very rare cases where you would want to run just one coil of a dual coil sub. These are usually in SQ setups. Any time you run only one coil, you have only half the power handling (maybe less depending on the design and how well the "dead" coil can dump he...

Re: MS-2125 Help. Beyond Repair????

I also suggest you look around the forum for information on how to remove the transistors from the heatsink. I think either I or someone else made a write-up on this. I don't remember where it is, but you should be able to find it. If you do it wrong, this is difficult. If you do it right, it is eas...

-I added a photo where I circle the gate resistors. -Look at the PWM controller. It will say SG2525 or SG3525 on the top of it. Buy the same as the one for the other side. -You need the 12 caps, the gate resistors, the 4 MOSFETs, and possibly a PWM controller. -I think these pads would work, but you...

Re: MS-2125 Help. Beyond Repair????

That amp is well worth fixing. The repairs should not be too difficult. PG boards of this type are easily damaged with too much heat from your soldering iron, so keep that in mind. You will need to replace the 12 power supply input capacitors, as yours are leaking. You will also probably have to rep...

Re: ZX450 strange behavior

These issues are not normal, and indicate something wrong somewhere.

To start with swap the right and left outputs, and right and left inputs on the amplifier. Does the problem move to the left side, or does it stay on the right side?
