Re: Old school amps - SQ comparisons
Excellent info once again. Thanks so much for all the detail. Back in the day I loved both PG and RF products and I had trouble making a decision between them. So i didn't. I used a PG ZX for my highs and an RF ix on sub duty. I wish I tried swapping them around back then, just for an A/B test. Alas...

Re: Old school amps - SQ comparisons
So if we take PG as the top benchmark for SQ in this case, then we have the less ideal newer RF ".2" amps (as you tested) at the other lower end of the SQ spectrum... Roughly where in between these two does the SQ of the "ix" fall? Is it say very close to PG, or more halfway betw...

Re: Old school amps - SQ comparisons
Alehed, thanks for your reply. Would you say the difference was tiny and hard to notice, or more obvious? Sometimes in home Hi-Fi you get people talking about differences which are almost impossible to hear. Eric, excellent info thanks. It is interesting to note you say "Of all the RF amps I ha...

Old school amps - SQ comparisons
Now I know this is entirely subjective, so there is no definitive answer. Plus I know we are biased PG fans here. However I also hope we are open minded and honest enough to appreciate different brands as well. So this is not necessarily about finding "the best", as it is all personal. But...

Re: Old school car audio - RIP
Very good point regarding the voltage! That is another issue I had not even considered! I wont be putting a fortune into car audio, even though I do find it rather exciting when I see NOS items. So I will keep myself in check. I'd like a small stash: one complete system for a new instal, plus anothe...

Re: Old school car audio - RIP
I wonder if a lot of the stashed old school equipment collections will be nose diving in value? If there are not enough people into it and no demand, then it might be a daft place to keep loads of money. Not that we do it for investment! Nostalgia rules. However, I can see loads of stuff hitting eba...

Old school car audio - RIP
This place seems pretty decent, but no offence, it appears to be a bit dead on here. Still, at least the few people who post appear to be friendly and helpful. Much more than can be said of other car audio forums! Everywhere else has been a pile of crap. I even tried the link the the face book page ...

Re: MEMORY LANE -- Where did you start?
I wish I had the pictures from the 1990s. However my fist kit was pretty decent mix of Rockford Fosgate, Phoenix Gold, Infinity.

Re: so did pg fall off earth or what?
I hope it is ok to bump this older thread. Like many of you I have been away from the scene. Mostly as I kept changing cars and never got around to instals. Other things took up my time and money, like houses, bills, life. But now I am getting back into it. My stash of kit is slowly growing. I aim t...

Re: Here's how to make PG amps sound better.
I can see why *some* people might get obsessed with the incredibly microscopic differences in home audio. At least at home the acoustics should be closer to ideal, it will be much closer to being silent, you can close your eyes and really focus properly. However in a car, which is noisy as hell in c...

Re: Let's see your stash
I have recently started getting back into car audio after some time away. I'll be building a system based around various NOS items I've started collecting: Rockford Fosgate, Phoenix Gold, Soundstream. As more things arrive I'll update the thread.
