Re: Is this acceptable?

You had a good point. I cleaned off the "paint pen" and used a coating to protect the leads from underneath (ground, right?) and redid the trace leads with that metallic paint pen. Continuity looked good. Heres a picture, along with some other pictures as I reassembled the amp again. http:...

I didnt add this to the system. as far as I know, it was installed by PG. there is a resistor run in parallel with the cap.

Re: Is this acceptable?

i googled, but what i cant figure out is how that being an open circuit caused my amp to act like a dead short. I am trying ot figure out if its worth testing the amp again, or if i need to spend more time to figure something else out. I took all heat sinks off and everything looks kosher. I dont se...

Re: Is this acceptable?

I can't figure out what you did there but it looks like you made it worse to me. Is that solder and if so, is it now going between the contacts? No that's not solder it's trace lead repair. Think metallic paint pen. I first used the protector pen to cover the exposed area then I redrew the lead con...

Re: Is this acceptable?

yes they all have been replaced. i got rid of that nasty solder job, i just couldnt clean up all of that garbage around it. So i repaired the trace leads going to the wima cap. I think I need to let the stuff dry before its conductive as i keep testing it and its still not conductive even though the...

Re: Is this acceptable?

the solder on the little blue piece doesn't look like it got hot enough to bond properly. I would start simple and just touch those spots with an iron and get the solder melted/bonded properly and see what happens. what little blue piece? I might be color blind but i dont see anything blue in any o...

Re: Is this acceptable?

yes. thanks for the info of what it is, never seen them before. so if it were removed from the system i would think it would leave an open circuit, not a short. so maybe this is not the issue?

Re: Is this acceptable?

just an update...my DMM shows no continuity in either side of those lines. could that be what caused me to blow the fuse? I dont even know what that block does. never seen it before on any of the boards that ive worked on.

Re: Is this acceptable?

I am adding to this as we started another discussion in my install thread and I thought it was more appropriate here. So I tried to power up the amp. I connected the + and - to battery. I had previously said that I had a 50 amp fuse, turns out it was a 30 amp fuse. well, when I shorted the REM conne...

Re: What do you think of this configuration?

what kind of car? I can say that I left my rear speakers connected because my son sits in the back sometimes. I just leave it faded to front usually. there are 2 reasons to have rear speakers: 1) rear seat passengers 2) you mostly run video and need surround sound. if neither of those apply then don...

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line

Yes it freshened up the interior quite a bit. It beats me why Vw would make an r-line steering wheel but not put it in an r-line car. It does come on my model in Europe. I had the same issue with the OEM dynaudio system. If I wanted it on my car I needed to get the v6 which isn't available as an r-l...

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line

Nice clean stealthy install with great gear!Whats not to like! thanks. stealth is the name of the game. This is a daily commuter and I drive to some shady neighborhoods. Beyond that, i have to open my trunk to get my tools out, so prying eyes cant see whats in my car. This is also why I will not do...

Re: 1997 Sound System surrounded by a Nissan Altima

that is a very nice install. you dont see installs and systems like that very often these days. Its very similar to the system I had in my grand am, with the model 11, Quart speakers, 30 band PG eq, alpine deck and changer. you made great choices on all of your products.

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line

i know that the fans didnt suck anything in as I was very careful about that. Also, i had the plexi in place, but i know that theres the switch by that plexi screw as I had to replace it since the old one was bad. I will take all of the covers off again and see if the rail caps are leaking and also ...

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line

so what is the idle draw for a zpa0.5? like fans, boards... i didnt think it would be enough to blow a 50 amp fuse, but if there was a short I would have expected it to blow the fuse before turning the fans on.

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line

the PS caps were replaced. rail caps have not been replaced yet though.

so what I did was I ran power and ground and it was fine. When I shorted the remote turn on the fans came on for a second and then it blew the fuse.

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line

thanks for the positive responses. I havnt tested the zpa yet. I did a preliminary test on the zpa with a 50 amp fuse and it blew it after 2 sec of powering up, no signal going to it. I am going to retry with a 100 amp fuse. If the amp is good I will hook it up to my system and see how it compares. ...

I had a 7995 in my old car. I really miss it. I wouldnt mind having a 7990 as well.

matter of fact, if I was looking for high end units, other than the alpines, i wouldnt mind a Sony cdx-c90, or a pioneer P1R.

Re: Is this acceptable?

So I got the upgraded mosfets and the ELNA caps came in finally. The 330 ohm resistors arrived, I had ordered 2 watt resistors but apparently the posts are too fat. When I ordered new resistors I ordered 1/4 watt ones. Will they work or should I get 1/2 watt resistors? Btw I got the caps, mosfets an...

http://www.phoenixphorum.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22669 Black was nice as it was the most durable finish they had. You must have some really BIG seats to fit these amps under them but there is no way I would hide them. If you need to be able to remove them like your sub box with a little extra ...
