Re: Calling all box experts - is mine worth keeping?
 I had a box made by the same guys who initially installed all my gear. They did not do a great job with wiring the amps, though neat and tidy it was far from optimal. This left me wondering about the box they made me. I have one JL 12W6v1 (3ohm DVC) being pushed by a PG zx500.2 @3ohms. Thank...

Re: Zpa0.5 repair issues/questions
I hear you. I am trying so e quick troubleshooting stuff before I give up. I suspect it's something beyond the power supply that is bad. I removed the rectifiers and will try it again. I suspect something further in the system as I know there's no short with the caps, and I'm down to 1 fet per trans...

Looks great! What do you have planned for the nail heads? Rust paint or maybe flat black paint? What process did you use to age it? Flame? Coffee?

Re: 2013 VW CC with McIntosh, Dynaudio, PG Xmax 12"
Haha yea I Did the carpeting right after work, didn't want to change. I don't fiberglass in work clothes usually. ;) Btw I carpeted the box to prevent rattles. It's still hidden hind that panel. I Also like to "finish" even if its hidden. If it were visible I would have done a better job a...

Re: 2013 VW CC with McIntosh, Dynaudio, PG Xmax 12"
Oh crap, i never updated after I finished the box...I installed a terminal cup. Of course i had ot mess with it, because the box is contoured on all surfaces i trimmed the cup and then heated it with a heat gun to mold it to the box. it now seals up very well. I also used "milkshake" to so...

Re: Zpa0.5 repair issues/questions
I know I had a short because the center pin (power) on the MOSFETS and the grounding pin read 2.2 ohms. The gate resistors were changed with the new MOSFETs to the 330 ohm (IIRC) from the 33 ohms that it had. So when I powered it up before, it would short before even connecting the remote wire. Now,...

Re: Zpa0.5 repair issues/questions
I removed all FETs and the short went away. I now have 1 FET per transformer and no short. I am ordering all new FETs again, and I will install them 1 at a time and verify that there is no short.

Re: Zpa0.5 repair issues/questions
Thanks for the update. i didnt use the base, collector, emitter, or gate because I thought people would be more familiar with which pin it is. So an update, ive been working with someone that has worked on a bunch of these. His suggestion was to remove the FETs and see if the short went away. Remove...

Zpa0.5 repair issues/questions
I will first fill in those who haven't seen.the previous thread. I bought a zpa for a good price but it was dead. It was previously "repaired" by a person with really bad soldering skills. I replaced all power supply caps(8200uf 16v 105*c). I replaced all power supply FETs with irfz48n and...

Re: Is this acceptable?
dang, i either used up all of my free advise or this thread is getting ignored because its too long... I think i found my issue...when replacing the FETs I found one lead going from the FET to the resistor was damaged, lifted from the board, and MIGHT have been touching the bus bar that it snakes un...

I have no clue where the stock amp would usually go, my car didnt come with an amp. The amplified system came with the V6 models, i have the r-line which only came with the 2.0t.Ahsmo wrote:Is the stock amp right under that enclosure?

Re: Not sure that it sounds quite right...advice would be go
Im really confused...so you used RCA outs from your aftermarket deck to go into a lanzar amp, then you took the speaker outputs and connected it to the speaker wire by the back of the deck? thats acceptable if you just took the wires going into the factory amp, cut them, and then cut the output and ...

Re: History of Boston Pro components - models, changes etc?
I had the 5.5 and I really liked them. Yes the tweeters can be kind of harsh, but you can attenuate them and it makes them perfect. What about the Z6? they were out the same time as a pro series I think, but the new pro series seems to take some of the z6 technology. I remember the first version of ...

So another question... I went to order a new set of irfz48, but I realized that there are different versions. the voltage and current ratings vary on them. Anyone know if it need 55V or 60V? 50A, 61A, 64A?

I finally got to hear an Xmax 12
So I got my hands on an Xmax 12 and I am now using it in my install. its 100% stealth, pics are in my install thread, but I must say, so far I really like it. its running off my 5th and 6th channels on my MacIntosh amp, and there seems to be plenty of power going to it. I do need to tweak it a bit, ...

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line with Mac and Dyn updated july 5, 2013
UPDATE: I decided to read the owners manual. I didnt have it until recently when a member on DIYMA emailed me a PDF of it. It turns out that when using the built in low pass filter theres some unique things to know. There are 3 settings, OUT, 80Hz, 120Hz. When using the OUT position, thats using the...

Re: 2013 VW CC r-line with Mac, Dyn, and OS PG updated 7/19/
Here are some pictures of the new enclosure, and then some with the sub mounted. I need to do some finishing work on the enclosure, and then of course test it to see how it sounds. this will all happen this weekend. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg291/ls1dave/VW%20CC%20speaker%20install/IMG_130...

No ideas? or is everyone just real busy?
i tested the caps and they look good. none are shorted and all are grounded properly. all positive sides are also properly connected. next step is to order all new MOSFETs.

Re: Is this acceptable?
So I tested the ZPA again. It didnt blow any fuses, but all I hear is a clicking noise. Its not powering on the fans and the LEDs arent lighting. I am going to take it all apart and check the caps to make sure none are shorted. Also, when I put in the FETs, i pushed them down flat. I am wondering if...

Re: sub box question
Those are the t/s parameters. They are used in calculating a box. If you are doing a sealed box then you don't really need them. There's no way for us to know how to face your subs. I suggest trying them in all directions to see what works best . Facing back isn't necessarily bad. When facing forwar...

Update... The dyn sub is for sale now. I decided to go more traditional with a sealed box. I'm trying out a few different subs, one of which is a 12" Xmax.

Back on track with this install (sorry I forgot to update this thread)... I rebuilt the speaker mounting adapters out of MDF. I did 2 3/4" pieces, so 1.5", very close to the factory spacing and I have plenty of room... http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg291/ls1dave/VW%20CC%20speaker%20in...

Re: Is this acceptable?
Thanks for inquiring. There was a person on ebay that sells other PG logo decals. I sent him this design and he did his best to replicate it. He sent me 2 or 3 of them, so let me know if you need any. Its on top. So I have been very busy but I did try one test. I used test leads (18 gauge wire) hook...
