Re: my XS2500 Project

I threw a cap for the crossover switch in an envelope and sent it out this morning. You should have it in a couple of days.

Re: my XS2500 Project

Nice work! I have some spare parts for XS amplifiers if you ever need anything. I have an XS2500 and XS4600 to steal parts from. I can send you a cap for the crossover button or send you the whole switch if you'd like.

Re: Elite amplifier gain setting

Eric is correct. Your assumption is that a speaker behaves like a resistor and has a flat resistance when the amplifier provides an A/C signal to it. The reality is the speaker's impedance (NOT resistance!) changes based on the frequency of the signal it is receiving. A 4 ohm speaker is not 4 ohms a...

Glad to see you're back Jason. As many have said, it's a lot quieter around here, but a few people still check in from time to time.

It was a rebadged Rainbow DSP 1.8. I heard that PG isn't going this route anymore though.

ZX was 1996-1999. ZXTi was 1999-???? Ti was around 2000-2003 I want to say. The ZX and ZXTi dates were taken from the old web faq.

Xenon was discontinued in 2005. I believe Ti was active from late 90's to early 00's.

Re: Pg xenon amps

A few years ago I would have told you that you need a line driver, but now I'm following the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle. You'll be fine without one. My current install has a 5volt deck and my Xenon's have no issue with noise floor.

According to the Elite manual and tech sheet, it will do 1000watts @ 2 ohms mono and will be safe to run at that impedance.

I've always been too intimidated by painting to try it myself. It looks like you did a fantastic job! My choice would be silver accents. I think an orange or red would be too much. A silver would go with your polished theme under the hood.

Re: 2015 F-150 Install

I FINALLY got to installing my midrange and tweeters. The tweeter mounts turned out better than I imagined. I am able to adjust them on the fly and play around with different angles to see what sounds best to me. The midranges are probably going to bring some criticism as they go against everything ...

Re: Xenon Fan Replacement

Yes, looking at Eric's picture, it should only take four screws to remove. My biggest hurdle is my amps are already installed and could be a pain to remove the bottom screws on the cover without removing them from the rack. I've tried finding fans that come close to the current draw of the originals...

Re: Old school car audio - RIP

Old school systems could be kept simple: one amp, in dash combined pre amp / eq, point source speakers in the kicks (no real need for TA), one sub. Really not much hassle and lovely sounds. For SQ you don't need loads of power either so the efficiency was neither here nor there. Agreed, they can be...

Re: Old school car audio - RIP

My thoughts on old school gear: In a nutshell, most of it sucked. Those of us who grew up in the 80's/90's have rose colored glasses I believe. Let's see: Amps were over a $1.00 a watt for quality amps. Proprietary connectors (or no connectors and just raw power wires to connect to). HUGE footprint...

Re: Xenon Fan Replacement

I'm curious how this will work out. Indeed I find that the fans on the Xenon's are quite loud. The main issue I see (with both our situations) is that the amp is the same space as the listener (trucks have that characteristic unless you do some bed mounted/blow through setup). In other words, you a...

Xenon Fan Replacement

I powered up my X200.4 and X100.2 in my new install recently and the fan noise from the X200.4 is extremely audible (even after the initial full power up), more than what I deem is acceptable. I tried researching the fan size/info on here and the only information I could find was a picture of a X200...

Re: zen 9 new amps ect

Just looking at a few pics from the CES thread and it looks like the amp they displayed at CES had individual inputs for each channel. Who knows what the actual production amp will have, but I'd imagine they'd have to have individual inputs, especially with all of the available DSP's with multiple I...
