Re: XS2300 Blk Repair

Your rails all sound to be correct. The ±15v rails are zener regulated and will be a little "loose" at idle. Once there is a bit of load while driving the preamp, I suspect they will drop down closer to where they belong. You could try replacing the pair of zeners, they possibly are leaky,...

Ti600.2 Customs for a client

Well, you guy wanted me to post up some repair threads, but not long after I posted that I started mostly only getting zed amps in for some reason, and since I don't find them interesting, inspired, or even ask that decent sounding. I had one client who asked me to do some custom work to a pair of t...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

That's a question I do not have time to fully answer, but in short, once you make repairs power the amp with a current limited supply. For this amp it should power up with as little as 2a available. Monitor current while it powers up. I personally monitor current any time an amp is powered on my ben...

Re: Help have an issue with an elite .5

A faulty gain pot can cause a lot of odd symptoms, but I've never heard one cause "warbling". Regardless, the link below should be a suitable replacement. It's a 9mm dual gang 50k "audio"(log) taper pot. In a pinch you can use a linear pot for this application, but since a suitab...

Re: Sapphire XS4600 Amplifier no power

They are actually 30R1 (30.1Ω) 1% tolerance. The color bands are orange - black - brown - gold - brown. Few color bands shift a lot from heat soak and age. You sometimes have to pull them and look at the bottom, or look for one doing the same job in another part of the circuit. 9 times out of 10, if...

Re: ZX475Ti potentiometer

It is for adjusting output current regulation. Do not mess with it unless you know what you are doing.

Actually none of the pots internal to the amp should be dicked with unless you know what you are doing. They are inside and out of reach for a reason

I looked through my drawer of spare parts and didn't find it. I need to dig through my boxes of junk in my attic for it. It's been years since I even saw the amp.

Re: What PG amps are simular in size/layout to ZX450 ?

If you are close to the Michigan side of the border you could drive it across to me. Aside from that, the ti500.4 is practically the same amp. The zx475ti is also the same as the 500.4, but the ZxTi line normally had the bad caps in it. It's possible for the TI line to have them as well, but less li...

Re: Phoenix gold xenon x1200.1 microchip help

The only way to tell if to put the ic in a programmer and try to read the code out. The fuses are part of the silicone die, you can't see them. Almost guaranteed they are set.

Re: Phoenix gold xenon x1200.1 microchip help

I haven't had a chance to look for the one I have, but no, you won't be able to bypass it. You may be able to get it running again by replacing the socket on the board. It looks like it's gone through WW2. You can Dremel away some of the IC's epoxy case above the broken lead. There is a fair amount ...

Re: Phoenix gold xenon x1200.1 microchip help

The pic micros are still available, but without the hex file to flash a new ic, it's not going to do any good. PICs are chosen because they have pretty good hardware level security. You can read the fine back from an unprotected micro, normally even one that's been severely damaged, but if the secur...

Re: ZX475 Hi Idle Current / Heat

These are the test points for each channel. You don't have to have the amp out of the case. You can measure directly across the emitter resistors like you did, but the amp should be at thermal equilibrium when testing, and that's hard to do with it upside down. 5mv is way higher than they should be....

Re: ZX475 Hi Idle Current / Heat

Yes, don't touch the bias pots. It literally takes only seconds to short an output of you don't know what you are doing. That said, it does sound like something is going wrong with the bias control. Am I reading correctly in that all channels sound ok? To measure bias current you need an accurate mi...

Re: SOUNDSTREAM REFERENCE 700SX cosmetic resto

There used to be a guy on eBay, worked for SoundStream back in the day and still does service and sales of hard to find parts. His name is Jamie, but I don't recall his eBay contact info. I think a Google search for his name and SoundStream might get you in the neighborhood. That said, you're pretty...

Re: ZPA 0.5 control board problem

The lm339 should be pin compatible across manufacturers. It's possible that you got an out of spec one. You'll need to check voltages on the inputs of the comparator on pin 6 & 7. Make sure pin 6 is at primary ground potential. Other than that, I'd check the parts I circled in the attached photo...

ZPA0.3 Basket Case Repair

This is a ZPA0.3 I got in from a client a little bit ago. This was quite literally a "basket case". This is how every tech likes to receive their work... Wrapped up in pieces in a box. Anyhow, the client has owned the since new (more in this later, it's an odd part of the thread). It was s...

Repair threads?

Hey folks, many of you know I do repair work full time. A good portion of my work gets posted to my Audio Tech's FB group. Would you all be interested in my crossover posting the threads here? I get a lot of PM's on this phorum, many of them asking the same questions about parts, etc... I thought ma...

The above mentioned are in addit...

I'm in Michigan. I have a 1-2 month backlog right now on complex repairs and upgrades. Straight up recaps normally get turned over quicker. I typically squeeze them in while waiting for parts for bigger projects.
