Nice work. I am glad to see someone saving a great amp like this.

Re: Phoenix gold MS – 275 Blown channels?

From the limited research I have done, fusible and flameproof resistors are technically different but in most circles people use their names interchangeably. In the M and MS series amps there are about 6 of these in critical locations in each gain stage. I have been replacing them with 0.33W fusible...

Re: MS2250 + MS1000 cooling solutions?

This was from many years ago, but my MS1000 never had any issues with heat...

And the fan cooling was pretty low profile.

These look pretty impressive.

Any chance of getting one of these to someone on this forum for review?

(Although I would love to review one, my opinions are probably long since outdated  , so it would probably be better left to someone more in tune with the times)

Re: My Steg MSK Class A, MS 2125,275, M 50, ZPA .5 SQ test

Your test would only be useful if you played the amplifiers at the same level (gain matched). In this case you will likely find you cannot distinguish the difference between any PG amp (those which you mention have nearly identical circuit designs). You still will probably hear differences between b...

Re: SX2 Amplifiers Released!!

Impressed so far. The SX2 1200.1 looks very stout.

Plenty of parts (looks overbuilt for its ratings), nice durable looking terminals, and I also like the easy and cheap to replace ATC style fuses.

Give us some guts of one of the full range stereo models!

I looked into this a few years back, and I thought their prices were way high, but if you contacted them about purchasing stuff it was actually affordable. They use the outrageous pricing as a form of advertising.

Re: PG Bandit Repair please help

The diode is there for reverse voltage protection, so if you were to connect the main power backwards, it should short out the input and blow the fuse to protect the amplifier. It is wired across both power inputs, and after the input nulling torroid (green and red coil). http://www.soundbuggy.com/E...

Re: Anyone use a stand on mower?

Both of those brands look great to me, but upon further investigation the closest dealers for me are around one and half hours away. I found an Exmark dealer only about 2 miles away. I am going to keep digging to see what other brands have dealers in my area.

Anyone use a stand on mower?

It currently takes me 2 hours or more to mow my lawn with a 22" walk behind (push) mower. I am considering getting a 48" stand on, or walk behind with a sulky. I am looking for opinions on them. I don't want a sit-on zero turn, as it is just to big to deal with storing, plus I need more ex...

Re: Leaking capacitor tutorial update

About 13 years ago I did my first cap replacement job on a ZX250v2 I found to be leaking. The originals in it were Nichicon, so I replaced them with the same series Nichicon at that time. The only difference was I went with the larger value so the height would be the same as the originals (as cap te...

Re: ZPA 0.3 with fried rail caps

Looks like a nice repair job.

From your before photos there is a good chance the amp has been overheated, which can damage the rail caps and cause a fire. As you noted, loose wire strands could do that as well, depending just where they end up shorting something out at.

Re: Happy 10th Anniversary to PhoenixPhorum

I think the Soundbuggy forum only lasted about a year, and was more of a quick solution to PG pulling the plug on the original forum. Looking back it was an experiment destine to fail with me moderating it. I was not nearly mature enough at the time (and likely still am not) to hold any position of ...

Re: What are the "goto" facebook groups now?

My wife uses Facebook to keep in touch with her family and friends, and even my family and friends. If I really need to inform someone of something, I have her do it. Maybe she can join the PG group. Re: zpa 0.5, 2xM50 how and what to use in a "normal" setup

Bridge one of the M50s to each side of your front speakers (one amp for the left, the other for the right). Use the ZPA for bass, or better yet, install the ZPA, but don't wire it to anything and hide a Class D bass amp somewhere. You will get a lot more power this way, and still retain the look of ...

Re: Enclosure size confusion

Most enclosure calculators are for use with subwoofers in a large room environment. When you put a sub in a small space like a vehicle, the calculation needs to be different. In this small space, the volume of the vehicle's interior becomes a large influence on what the subwoofer will do.

Re: I need help with a tweeter

That is close to correct, but is the bottom of the line P series not the top of the line Q series.

Mylar domes in the P vs aluminum in the Q. Also, the Q tweeters handle more power I believe, but I don't know how, as they have the same motor structure in all three lines, P, X, and Q.

I have to stick with originals as they mount co-axially with the midrange on the speaker grill.

Normally I would be OK with changing them to something more modern.

FNQ 1401 or

If you have any or know of any, please let me know. I have one that failed on me, and I don't wish to replace the whole component set unless I have no choice.

One of the transistors in the voltage gain section of the bad channel may have failed. Or you might have a broken trace so you are only getting half of the output signal (which will sound like bad distortion). Just some guesses.

As of lately this issue has been getting progressively worse with my Roadster. Just about every time I shut the vehicle off and turn it on again the left tweeter is very quiet. I'm running the amplifier fully active to a set of Rsd components and RsdC subwoofer. The 500.4 section crossovers are all...
