Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

somebody is awfull touchy he couldn't make that education or shop work and had to fall back to installing. I know it gets old after 10 yrs and takes all the fun out of your hobby when you do it full-time.... High class right there.. really classy man For the record (but not that it really matters):...

he could be richard clark, he could be dick clark, who would you expect to get better advice on audio from? When someone give instructions, advice, or help on the net it is nice to know if its richard or dick we are talking too.... Eric was pretty much spot on with his earlier guess at what his cre...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

Can you please re-read my post except this time use an open mind about it, and don't just automatically look for ways to be right and me be wrong. In the case you mention I would not port the box, I would run it sealed. If it is too small to be ported, then it would not make much sense to try. Usin...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

The other option is the one I choose. I run an impedance curve. I stick a port in the box with the cross sectional area I want (most often driven by the install itself, and how the port will look cosmetically), then use an arbitrary length. I run an impedance curve on the box with the woofer, and w...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

Shawn, STOP making things up NOW. I have tons of respect for Vance DIckason, I own some of his books, and I have used his teachings to great success. Changing the subject and making stuff like your false comment up does not make you right. In a past thread you misinterpreted his words, used them ag...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

audiophyle's responses are spot on. He deserves credit for the clear and consise information he is providing. This entire time, I've only been trying to reinforce what he's been saying. audiophyle: I have already suggested that ttocs should download WinISD and aquaint himself with it. Hell, I even m...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

Well, it is probably total car audio blasphemy, but if you want to leave little to chance, just go with the manufacturer recommended enclosures. Sure you won't get 100% performance this way, but I doubt you would get less than 90% performance. Now that doesn't make much sense! At least according to...

lol. Its not too hard to figure out when someone is too much theory and not enough hands on. Modelling can't be right?! Say it ain't so bro!!!! If you are referring to me, then you are sadly mistaken bro. If you don't think I'm "hands on" then you truly are "ignorant". I think y...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

Why do you guys (shawn k and audiophyle_247 specifically) think that when someone disagrees with you they are automatically ignorant? We don't "automatically" think they're ignorant! Within this specific thread, ttocs admitted right in the begin that he has "never" plotted drive...

Re: Anyone have the scematic or service manual for the ZPA's

sorry to bring up this old thread but did anyone ever find any prints for the 0.5 or even a few high res shots? After a bit of research, I found out that unfortunately PG never made a service manual or even a schematic for these amps :( I'm pretty familiar with them now though. I've just recently r...

Don't worry bro. Believe me I dont, well maybe not for a few choice members (ignorance is bliss right?). I do worry for those who stumble into this thread wanting to learn, and it needs to be painfully clear what the truth is among all this BS. Ive always believed those who dislike ported enclosure...

Ive always believed those who dislike ported enclosures have never heard a properly designed one. Because once they do they will never be happy with sealed again. lol I've always been an advocate for vented enclosures as well. However, some drivers just simply don't lend themselve's well for vented...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

Now again Shawn just above you said that now ported boxes have a higher margin of err the sealed boxes? Wait.. what?? No I certainly didn't! Let me put this painfully simplistic for you: Sealed enclosures have a higher tolerance for error (higher acceptable margin for error) Vented enclosures have ...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

Dude, your ignorance is showing. "Margin of error" is a pretty standard explaination of an "acceptable degree of variance", 2 seconds on gogle would have given you that answer. Not to mention it is a huge significance to anything in the built environment. It is just as important...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

sounds like all your "margins of err" have to do with the possibility of the box builder taking shortcuts or the idea that most sealed boxes are made of FG and and guestimated. It's rediculously easy to build a simple "box" with a specific internal volume. However, in the real w...

Re: Ported vs Sealed, lets open this can of worms. lol

That is the funniest stuff I have read on this post now. Ah, wouldn't your ported box in the same place suffer from the same err in measuring, only now compounded by the fact all the #'s entered into the program are not correct now? Saying someone might mis-measure the sealed enclosure, my argument...

but I've been lead to believe before that the RSDc's are better suited for a sealed box and I just figured this might be evidence of that in some way. BTW, I've always wondered, what qualified a sub to be better suited for a sealed or ported enclosure? I know it's based primarily on the T/S paramet...

sealed has a higher margin of err?
