Re: Testing amps.

I've been looking into making a dummy load(s) unit that would be flexible for multiple channel and variable impedance, less for analytical purposes than for just functionality testing. I think one important thing it sounds like trickyricky's advice gets at is to drive both (or all) channels at once ...

Re: Car Stereo and home stereo wiring /cabling

LOL I knew this was gonna take a turn at some point. Kirghiz and ttocs are both right. If the electrical and physical properties of two different brands of wire are essentially the same, there is no "magic' that can make one outperform the other. Bottom line is you can either believe in physics...

Re: General questions during the purchasing of audio equiptm

I have admittedly limited knowledge of high current ac, but I think you will be OK with 10. You certainly won't have any audible loss vs 8 awg, I guess the concern would be heat due to the more resistance. Wire is wire, copper is copper, etc. It doesn't care if its carrying voltage that is a music s...

Re: Car Stereo and home stereo wiring /cabling

Cliff notes: I'm cheap. I use the cheapest cable I can find that specs to what I need. Speaker cable has been monoprice for a while. Its a little stiffer than some more expensive wire, but I haven't had any corrosion issues like I've seen with some inexpensive stuff sold as speaker wire, and the ins...

Re: Tantrum 600.4 help

I'd give a shot at hitting it with deoxit gold first, won't hurt. If it really needs replaced it should be 3 joints to desolder/solder I'm guessing. The one time I took my 2 channel Tantrum apart I remember swearing a lot though.

Re: Help finding diodes for MS2125

I'm not the most knowledgeable about parts and repairs but try searching for: D316 - CPF10 D317 - JPF10 Here's the datasheet, maybe it will help you find a suitable replacement as these don't appear to be made anymore. Maybe try a surplus place like apexjr.com. I'd call him though I know they aren't...

My front porch was looking like a freight terminal for a minute there earlier today. Alpine CDE 7831 for $15 off CL. I'm not familiar with the Alpine stuff apart from the obvious old school flagships, always wanted one when they were the definitive players. Figured I'd take a shot hoping this was a ...

on a related note, when people are talking about "3d printing" that I keep hearing about, is it basically something like this? or a whole different type of machine/process?

TantrumX 10" in a nice (looking) sealed box for $30?

There is one for sale about 5 miles from me, anyone have any knowledge they can drop on me? I'm running 1 Memphis Power Reference 12" now that I got brand new for $30 and built a sealed box for, running right now off a Tantrum 500.2 a channel on each 4 ohm vc. It performs about how I expected. ...

This shit sucks. My dad's VW radio just completely died the other day. There's no 12v switched trigger, the trigger to allow turn on is like digitally controlled by the diagnostic computer. so not only can I not bench test the radio, he has to go pay VW $100 or whatever for them to plug in the scan ...

that all sounds great except for the selling you my ZX 450 Lol 8) figured it was worth a shot slipping that in there hahaha. Re: designing new system with old parts

I just finished putting a stereo in my 4 door sedan (Maxima) doing the same thing, using stuff I had laying around and also jumping on deals. You have PLENTY to make a loud and good sounding stereo already if you pay attention to details with the install itself. For one, Those Diamonds are fairly se...

Very cool Ajaye, thanks! I'm working through some of these albums, seeing what I can do to them. My biggest complaint at this point is that my truck is in the driveway, and my headphones don't sound like my truck. I expect some trial and error until I get them dialed in, but this is a very easy to ...

I was fooling around with Audacity out of curiosity after responding last night. I think it may be even easier than I thought. Re: Music Editing Software

So, I'm now in the process of importing a ton of CD's into Apple Lossless, and I have run across several old CD's that have never had any bottom end. I'm going to use Appetite For Destruction for the example, since this disc has frustrated me for 20+ years. Before you say, "If it isn't on the ...

So, for xmas the wife decided to get someone at work to build me a gaming PC! After we discovered streaming through Netflix/Hulu Plus/Aereo using the PS3's and the Roku we really didn't need a whole home PC anymore. So this was a pure gaming PC. My question is how did she do? Re: Music Editing Software

I used a free open source program called Audacity, and it seems to have done the job. I have no idea if it lost any sound quality in doing it yet. My computer speakers aren't going to tell me that. I'll have to wait to get in the truck tomorrow to find out I guess. Audacity will automatically open ...
