Call me stupid...call me crazy...call me naive...call me whatever... but I THOUGHT I was getting a alright deal on my car insurance...

Now we allllll see the commercails.... "millions switched, and save 4 million dollars a year!!!!" and we wacth 'em and think "yeah they call say that...whatever>" well at least I think that...

so I've been paying a rate for one vehicle for a couple years now...$160 a month for one ride...my 1998 Jeep Grand cherokee 5.9 Limited...now it is a rare jeep and mroe expensive to repair than most other jeeps but still.... my records squeeky clean, as i my wife's... I've been payin this raite with a life long agent of my wifes family...well..... turns out My ONE CAR is costing me as much as my mother in laws 2 CARS and HOUSE insurance.... another body does his house, 2 cars and life insurance through one company and pay a tad more than me for all that....

so youre saying..."you idiot how did you NOT know??" ... like I said..

call me crazy, call me stupid. But not for long.

Well...also depends on how OLD you and your wife are.

I am not sure how old you are...so your Mother in law has to be at least close to 20 yrs older than your wife. And possibly you....
Your buddy....I dont know....
But ya that is high....but if you don't question or research....you may be paying too high as well....but if you are younger....that could still play a factor in price. under 25....and it'll be expensive.

well Im 25, my wife's 29... like I said, we're both ridin' on clean records...she's NEVER had any violation or accident ever  and my last one was like 6-7 years ago...so while I am young, and do live in a locale that is a little more to ensure than other place, and I drive an SUV...I still think I can do way better....

I'll be calling for quotes today to a bunch of places, some local agencies, some national...I'll list out my findings later.

We have 2 cars + house with the insurance company. Had 3 cars at one point. Adding second car dropped the rate something like 20%, next car another 15%, then the house did another 40%. I swear we pay less for having it all than what it would cost for just one car. Wierd how insurance works.

I agree you can do much better! I was just trying to make you feel a little better if it was also do to age.

25 is when the prices gets cheaper. Oh and girls usually get cheaper rates too.

$140 a month here for full coverage on 2 cars plus renters insurance, plus extra coverage on the stereo in the car. Not too bad I would say. That reminds me, I have to call up and drop the full coverage on the car down to liability only now that I have it paid off. 8)

I pay a ton of insurance. But I've had my drivers for... less than two years. Clean record though, no claims. I got a 5% discount after 1 year of driving.

In BC all insurance is done through a crown corporation (ICBC) and so there's no hunting around for the cheapest rate.

Consider what coverage you have and what you'll get if you switch to save money. No point in switching if the savings is just going to be reduced coverage.

We pay $180/mo for 3 cars, an 02 wrx, a 00 civic, and minimum coverage on the 92 civic, our little house, and some life insurance.. It was originally even less, as I waited for my one ticket to drop off before I picked up the wrx.

Unfortunately I got a ticket in it less than an hour after picking it up :/
I'm afraid of widths.

6 cars - 02 Concorde, 00 Regal, 00 Dakota, 90 TBird SC, 89 TBird SC, 89 Cougar XR7 - full comprehensive & no collision on any.
3 houses - $750K - full replacement including contents.
Life insurance X2 - $1Mil each - for the kids to party when we're gone.
Jewelry - $20K - replacement lost or stolen.

Me 50, wife 48, daughter 22, son 20 - all squeaky clean.

$392.00 per month.

State Farm - 30 consecutive years with the same broker. He works to keep us. One value he presented was he took all liability off each policy and created a blanket liability that would kick in to any of the policies if a claim was activated. This alone saved a ton of coin where each policy's liability was removed. Creative coverage by a professional broker who looks out for his loyal clients. Great relationship.
