I have an iPhone and I could never go back. It's way too cool to have internet access everywhere. I got in early with Fido so I pay $30/mo for 6gb, which is normally what you pay for 1gb
. But unless you stream music or use tethering to connect your laptop to its internet connection, you probably will never use more than 500mb/mo. I've only done so maybe twice.
iPod Touch is basically the same thing, minus the phone and 3G wireless. It's also more expensive than an iPhone bought with a phone contract. Since I have an awesome ooold Fido plan, I didn't mind signing a contract, since it's a ton cheaper than anything offered from any of the carriers nowadays (fucking bastards).
If you don't mind going used, I would suggest checking out the 5th generation iPod. They had the best audio quality of all. You can get them as big as 80gb, which will store your collection 20 times over

I think I will go new as I see allot of them on ebay broken ect. Also i have know idea what they come with
So I think is between a classic or the nano
I think since i don't use it all the time i will not spend the money on the touch
love the size(GB) on the classic but like the size of the nano
and it about 100 cheaper...hhmmmm
I will do tonight on my way home to best buy and futureshop to see if they have a opened box sale on them

my little nano is kinda cool. it is only 8 Gbs but as easy as it is to swap music around its not a big deal. Id like to have like a 160 Gb so i could keep all of my music on it but im in the same boat as you, dont use it nearly enough to justify spending the dough.
We don't need no stinkin' bass boost!

after reading about the 160 classic i have found many time people saying
you must use Itunes. Nothing else works
is this true? I know i had the 80g?
I never load my own unit my friend do so if it only uses itune im sure they (my friend) don't pay for the music
i can get the 16g nano wish they made a 32g but what can you do
Tom would you be able to shead some light on this? Also I read the touch doesn't sound as good as the classic

I have about 40GB of music in my iTunes library and none of it was purchased through the iTunes Music Store.
There are plugins and hacks to get an iPod to sync without iTunes but the fact that the only supported way to sync your iPod is iTunes doesn't mean you have to buy your media from Apple. You can import any and all of your own music into iTunes, then sync.

Just install itunes and sync your iPod to it. I disable itunes store, have never bought music from itunes and have no problems. I purchase used CD's through Amazon, rip them into lossless, and if so desired, sell the CD's. It's cheaper than buying the mp3 for $.99 a song through itunes and I get a lossless format that can be used in any computer (since itunes store makes you approve only a certain number of computers). There are plugins and hacks to get an iPod to sync without iTunes but the fact that the only supported way to sync your iPod is iTunes doesn't mean you have to buy your media from Apple. Between a Nano and a Classic, I say get the Nano hands down. I would way rather have a 5th gen than a Classic. Since you don't need a ton of space the Nano will be a perfect fit. Those things are light as a feather, and damn near indestructible as well. Wendy has broken a million iPods, but her Nano lasted for a good 3 years until she drenched it with water. Now she's got an iPhone so I pray to jeebus she doesn't destroy it
