Today's home improvement project

Post by mr tibbs »

Today we had a pellet stove insert installed. We had a gas insert, but it was old and facing the wrong direction. So, we had a more efficient pellet stove insert installed facing the living room. Here are a few photos taken with the wife's camera.

The plan is to frame off the back of the chimney with metal studs and block it off for good. There is no reason to have a see through fireplace anymore now that we have the pellet stove.

It is a little late, but a free standing stove would have been even better. You get a lot more efficiency off free standing. But, what you did looks better.

It all depends how much you plan to use it. I grew up with wood heat (not pellets, but go out and cut it type), as my parents used it in both their home and cottage, and still do to this day.

Wood sure beats gas for comfort level. On cold nights, my wife and I go over to my parent's and sit around the stove soaking up the heat.

If I ever have the money to add a family room off the back of our house, I plan to put in a wood stove while I am at it.

I would have gone with wood, but the gas insert was already there and needed to be replaced. And as long as the chimney was there we might as well use it. I'm kinda excited for winter to get here so we can use this thing!
