Car bodywork

Post by ydnap »

In a sado kinda way I quite enjoy it.

What I enjoy I dont know, it's certainly not the bondo dust or primer dust I think it's more the satisfaction you get when you actually make a dent vanish and then put primer over it. It's actually odd to get rid of them dents that you became accustomed to for so long

I have worked out two of the worst dents my car had. the ones that when it was all detailed looked fuckin gack.

And it wasnt even that hoof print in the hood (tho I am working on that) it was two that were barely noticable but were bad.

One was at the front of the passenger fender from where my cousin spun it into a snow pile. This was a bad one, not only did it go inward and make the corner light stick out but it also had a crease in the middle. That one's gone now, it actually meets up with the corner light again which is really weird lol..

The other wasnt a dent per se, it was more of a design flaw.

On the inside of the driver's door is a small metal plate that supports the hinge and the thing that stops the door from opening all the way (that hydraulic thing). Well the hinge mustve got stiff which pulled on the plate and creased the door inward ever so slightly, this wasnt a bad thing but the spot welds holding it on became visible on the outside of the crease.

Thats gone now too.. Also the small dents that the mexicans who whacked my car with the gas pump are completely gone also.

When done I am going to go to my friend's gas station and pump my own gas, with a rag in hand.... Three days after my taurus was painted some asshole spilt gas on my taurus and it left a mark.

Also, this is to anyone who has recently had paint done (mastiff esp) Keep your car AWAY from birds for about 3 months.

My taurus got shit on and it actually fades the clear. There's something in bird shit that will damage the paint until it is completely hardened. So take caution bud :)

Ill get some pics of my tib soon, its just so bloody cold and snowy out there :(

I wish I had pictures from the 03 Tiburon front end my friend and I just painted. It looks pretty damn good... we stood back a little too far when spraying the clearcoat so there are a few dry spots, but who cares, it's just being painted to be sold. We got rid of the Tuscan logo and side blinker (one replacement fender had a blinker spot, stock fender on the other side had none) while we were at it. The filled blinker is slightly noticeable through paint, but the other stuff isn't. After light wet sanding we got the orange peel to look the same as factory, and the color is only very slightly off (damn sun dulled stock paint). Altogether, job well done for our first try.

It looks pretty badass though. I got him to paint the center of the hood down to the grille in dark metallic grey, where the rest of the front stayed the stock silver. We also used the dark grey to hilight the fog lights and vents on the side.
