It finally hit me

Monday May 4th 2009, I was FIRED because I forgot my time badge.

Sense we only have the one vehicle, my truck, my wife drops me off at work and then she proceeds to work. Well it was warmer ten I thought outside when she dropped me off so I took my coat off and threw it in the truck and she left.

Whilst walking to the door of thy factory I realized my badge was attached to my coat. I didn't see the need to call my wife and have her bring back my badge and make her late. After all people forget their badges all the time.

Well as it turned out I, according to their computer, I forgot it on Nov 3rd 2008 as well. So we're only allowed 1 in a one yr period and this was my 2nd time I forgot it. I swore up and down I didn't forget it in November, but the supervisor at the time couldn't remember so "we just have to go by what he put in the computer"....

So after all that, at the end of the day they fired me. I could've just went home and taken points and I'd still have a job, but because I showed dedication by going in (and I need the $$ too  ) they canned me. After 11+ years of service that's how I'm treated.

A friend/co-worker was pissed and went off in the 5 minute meeting the next morning. He was told to calm down. At least someones in my corner. Anything to rid the company of people w/o laying them off.

Now if I can only get unemployment as we're unsure if I will because I was fired. I'm being told that I will for the stupid reason alone.

At the end of the meeting when they called me into the office, as I was leaving the dumbass's asked for my time badge. :idiot: :idiot:
I just turned and looked back at them and said in a smart voice "Isn't that why I'm in here?".

After a week off and looking for a new job, I found the perfect one. Only catch.....It's 2 hrs away. Looking for someone to weld Aluminum w/3 yrs minimum and I've been doing it for 9 years. $15-$18 per/hr depending on experiance and that's as a temp. I was making $18.85 when I was fired. Just think what full time would pay?

Around here a 2 hour drive is not that uncommon. Jobs are tight right now, you might want to suck it up for the time being and weather the storm until the economy turns around. Just a thought, good luck man!! :(

The drive for music purposes was my first pro for the job.

As for doing it, I wouldn't be able to afford the gas costs and we only have 1 vehicle that we have to use to get myself and my wife to work.

I joked about taking my dads RV trailer up there and live in it through the week.

Thats sooo crappy. it doesn't surprise me tho, it has really gone from an employee's moarket to an employers market very quick. almost gotta watch myself and how i do things at work. the higher ups are tightening the noose. i'm in a union so it's real tough to get fired but not impossible
ie stealing would be automatic for them to axe you. i feel bad for ya bro keep your chin up.

After 11 years of spending the majority of his time making them money, you'd think they might offer him the common decency of being straight with him. And for 11 years... forgetting your time card twice in a year?? That is the saddest excuse I've ever heard.

Wow, I am really sorry to hear that. Really sounds like they had some pre-set excuses to use to cut pay roll levels.

As for commute, if it is on easily flowing roads, or wide open highways, over 90 minutes is not bad, but stop and go and stop and go into a major city just wears you down even before you get to the office.

Man .. The shit i hear just keep getting worse.

Believe me .. I feel for ya!

My favorite, latest, disconnection of confrontation ... Employers on some job search engines don't even have the decency to e-mail you when someone else was hired for a position. Now it just shows up on the search engines job list as 'you were not hired'

Stupidest thing I EVER heard Of!!!!!!!!!!

That has GOT to be the stupidest, lamest excuse I EVER heard of for taking away a persons' livelihood. Unfortunately, most American States
operate in an "at-will" capacity, meaning that they can terminate for almost any or for NO reason, unless you belong to a "protected class", of which I am pretty sure there are only two entities left, elderly and disabled. While it will be very hard to get a legitimate lawsuit going, you may have either service provisions' for a "severance" type package or you might simply want to threaten them with derogatory publicity for their
cowardly termination. Being a member of the public, I know I wouldn't
want to do business with the chicken-shit company who fired a good worker such as yourself over some bullshit reason. Where are you at Bro, maybe theres' something else that could be done...
