Got broken into again...

Post by joyride »

New city, same story. Came out to find my front window broken again, and the trunk popped. I just hope those fuckers were happy to find nothing but loose wire ends in the trunk! Good thing I put that octane under the front seat, saved me twice. Im still out $160 for the window though

That blows. I've yet to be broken into, then again, I likely haven't been driving for even a fraction of the same amount of time the rest of you guys have... and it's not like a '91 4Runner is hot shit.

That would be great if the theives installed it themselves. Odds are though that it gets sold in some shady parking lot, or to a pawn shop, and someone "innocent" might get burned.

Instead, cut the RCA traces and hardwire some looped playback of clown music, or Celine Dion.

I have only had my truck broken into once, they grabbed the faceplate to my cd player and the bicycle toolbox that were both laying on the drivers side floor. After installing alarms for so long my truck has a mega alarm on it by compustar. I have the regular siren, the horn honking and interior piezzo siren. All of that is loud but I think the part of the alarm that really catches people attention is the mechanical siren. It sounds like a tornado alarm and I know from experience goes straight through walls and travels a long distance. I was lucky that they slim-jimmed the door so there was no window damage, and the alarm must have sent them running since they didn't get any further then the drivers floor, mission accomplished.....

It sucks to have your shit stolen but I don't feel sorry for people that do not take the proper steps to protect their shit.

Here is a trick I learned...I've grown up with amps under the seats and in racks so I regularly bend straight razors in the middle and mount them with the seats out and the blades up at the mount holes of the amps and under lips of the racks so that anyone reaching under my seats or around my box or racks gets nada but a ton of stitches and blood loss for their efforts.

Had my 87 caddie rigged up with no alarm and the one time it was broken into the first thing they did was reach under the seat where the amp went through...sadly on the way out he apparently gave the face of my headunit a one armed jab with a screwdriver and killed it but he left my car with less then what he went in with....it works and is safe as long as you know it is there

Unfortunately I moved to Grand Rapids. I have never been the guy that bumped around town. In fact, I couldnt, as I didnt have anything in there that would bump. Its not an obvious car (2001 impala with 'city' dents all over it. The stereo isnt obvious either. The amp is under the seat. I always remove the head as well. They got away with nothing at all, but I got stuck with the $155 to fix it. The price wasnt bad, considering I called GM dealer for a quote, and they said $340 and 3 to 4 days. Called an auto glass place and they are coming to my work tomorrow and doing it for less than half.

And as far as the alarm goes...I had one in, but the fucking thing made my car nuts and fried my computer. I took that thing out ASAP after that $600 bill

While I absolutely agree with you, on the other side of alarms are the douchebags with improperly tuned alarms that just go off, and off, and off, and off, and off when nothing is happening and no one gives a crap about their fucking vehicle and ain't stealing shit.

I realize a properly tuned alarm doesn't have so many false positives and doesn't really make a thief want to stick around while it's going off. I do however think that it becomes much less effective in densely populated areas where trained thieves can play it off like it's their car and they are too stupid to turn it off and no one else thinks twice about it. In a smaller community, I could definitely see how that wouldn't fly because you generally know who owns the car and if they should be in it.

I'm not bashing alarms. It does take more than just an alarm to protect your vehicle though, and common sense about parking location is pretty key.

I dont necessarily agree with you about "people that do not take the proper steps".

Theivery is theivery. protected or not protected, no one has the right to steal what is not theirs. The right to put whatever you want in your car. Grant it it's smart these days to have the alarms and stuff yes. But sometimes there's only so much you can do to protect your stuff. These days, even an alarm or protective measures is helpful but doesn't mean that you will come out unscathed. I've had a laptop taken luckily it was a broken one and didn't cost me anything. I had to pay for my window. I did have an alarm. And I protected what I could. The laptop was in a black bag in the back on the floor. It was later in the day and was dark. I have tinted windows in the back...YOU COULD NOT see the bag. Anyway what scared me was that I had all my gear sitting in boxes waiting for install. They took none of that....WHEW....
But it pisses me off. It's my car....STAY OUT OF IT....alarm or not....

Just like these days you can't leave your door unlocked?! and people will just walk in....? thats crazy. Again...Alarm/protective devices or not. Thats just wrong.

I wish I could get one of these: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/9812/11 ... rower.car/ Stupid thieves should get what they have coming to them. I also heard about the lawnmower blade on a garage door spring that they use down there. I would just be scared of it releasing on me.

I live in phoenix, tempe led the nation in car thefts just 2 years ago so not sure how the small comunity would effect me.

I will have to take some video of my alarm going off. With the 3 different types of sirens going off(regular siren, mechanical and the horn), and the interior siren makes it really uncomfortable inside and people look to see what the hell it is. The two way function makes it easy to monitor when it is out of earshot, the range on it has impressed me with the new spread spectrum technology.

What part of Grand Rapids did this happen? I lived there long enough to find out the "hot spots" as far as thieves are concerned.

For the most part I think you almost have to go looking for the bad parts of town, or have the timing off. Nothing happens to a car in the morning on the west side, but in the evening anything can happen for example.

Anyone ever heard of the alarm unit that is armed with a can of teargas?
There was a presentation on a website a few years ago! A guy in austria equipped his Rockford Fosgate Vehicle with it! There is no Alarm at all! You get a short message to your cell! As soon as the guy breaks the door a voice give´s him a 5 second warning! After that it fills up the whole car and the guy is gone for sure!   Even better when he tries to steal the whole car! The system locks him in! Warns him and gives the thief 5 seconds to leave the car! Door opens again! If he doesn´t leave he´s crying like a baby for the next hours!

The only bad part about it is that u have to do a lot of cleaning to get all the odor out of your car again!
