If you bought something on eBay which was marked as used and when it showed up you found out it was refurbished, what would you think?

What if they used it after it was refurbished ?

i.e....bought it refurbished, used it then sold it to you. Which category does that fit in ?

Would that qualify it as used ?

IMO refurbished might be a better "value" than used.

But if it is a collectible rare item maybe not...

Check this out...

I sold that Mac Mini as "used". After all, I did use it. I opened it and I played with it. It was originally Apple refurbished, not new from Apple. The guy who bought it does not like the fact that is was originally refurbished.

When you sell on eBay it has the option for New, Refurbished, or Used. If I marked it as Refurbished, that would not be right, as I had used it. When I took it out of the box and started trying it out I threw away a lot of the packing junk like clear plastic covers and twist ties. I assumed that by marking it as used that would be the least desirable and most accurate description for it.

Used is used. That includes refurbished, or not. I think the refurbished element is totally irrelevant. All that matters is, it works and it's used, that's it.

As a side point I didn't even know you could list something as refurbished. Odd

My understanding has always been that something sold as refurbished was a new item which was then used, and sent back to the company, which the company could no longer sell it as new legally. The company would then get it back to original standards functionally and cosmetically, and sell it at a discount.

If I bought that Mac Mini new and then put a big scratch across the top and sold it, would it be any different if I bought it refurbished and put the same big scratch across the top of it? Assuming I sold both listed as "used".

So far the guy does not seem to want anything in the way of monetary compensation, or to send the item back. I am pretty sure he will end up leaving me back feedback though, since he did not get what he assumed he was getting (a new Mac Mini apparently).

Used trumps weather or not it was a referb or new.

As mentioned above, referb is where it has been reworked to meet the original standards by the company so t is just as good as new, but had been "used" once before.

Referb to me is new w/o as long of a warranty.

You're good/ok buy my book Eric.

Tough spot. Granted if you have offered him the world and he does not take it, then he should be happy accepting it for what it is and not leave a negative feedback.

Granted I think "used" covered it.

To me refurbished is not a big deal. The item should be up to factory specs performance wise so there should be no issue with the unit then. By stating it is used, I think that would have covered all of your bases. I have sold PG items that have been "refurbished" by PG and they work just fine, however I have bought "used" items that I've had to send to PG to be refurbished.
