Anyone know how much money has been donated? Im being serious here. I have a suspicion that we have given them more money then that country was worth 2 months ago. Hell, for all I know the place could have already been in a state of rubble...

yeah, all it does is make your browser re-size which makes it appear that your map of Haiti is having a earthquake

I do not know, but I agree with your thought process. It has always been a shit hole IMO.

X2 - I donated all my Haiti money to Katrina rebuild efforts... doesnt it kinda seem like we (Americans) forgot about that little cluster f*ck down there? I mean, I know they just won the Superbowl but that place is almost a 3rd world country now.

Well someone doesn't like Haitians...

Those quarter million dead people sure can suck my dick cheese. Let alone having what little infrastructure they had completely leveled. I mean what a bunch of whiners am I right guys? They were poor already so who cares.

Katrina had 4000 deaths, 1.6% of the Haitian death toll. Show a little respect.

So what "have you been reading lately" that makes this anything less than an epic tragedy?

fuck haiti....I see homeless families here downtown every day and there is human misery everywhere all the time....

the only time anyone gives a fuck is when people feel there is something to be gained and we see all the relief shit on tv....that place hasn't contributed to society anywhere in any fashion since it was a fucking slave port 300 hundred years back...but there hands have been out since...it is a dangerous playground for the rich and as far as I am concerned if there was a power above us he would have washed the shithole into the sea and made it the next atlantis....along with all the captian save a ho stars who come out of the woodwork everytime they think they can gain some exposure and detract from the fact that while they have it really easy and live in 40 million dollar estates while people starve two miles from em

so why doesn't brad and angelina just give hiati there hollywood property...bout the same size....oh wait...they don't want those cut throats and criminals here........nor do I honestly...but it is all bullshit

if you want to help...reach out your arms and help those closest to you that need it....that is humanity....this is horseshit

I think Bogart took the words right out of my mouth!

Look at the relief workers that were imprisoned last week (still might be in prison) for trying to relocate orphaned children to homes in the USA. Which was apparently approved by the Haitian government, but then arrested them for child trafficing. I do not agree with removing the children to the USA, but that is a different talking point.

How about the Haitian government trying to kick the US armed forces out of the airport claiming that it was an attempt to take the country over!

There are a couple great articles one from a French relief worker, a retired policemans group that went over for relief efforts, and a Zimbabwe black mans commentary on the state of Haiti and its backasswards approach to self government. There are probably other great stories from relief workers but I have not pursued them. Essentially the Haitian people resent the aid to a degree and also seem to lack compassion for their fellow Haitians! It is sad really.

... If you would like to see some 3rd world shit today! Go to New Orleans Ward 9 and see that. Horrible. God knows how much money was pumped into that city and it is still a dump. Much of the repair work and new construction is very shoddy and I expect issues will arise from that as well. That city will slowly loose its architectural character due to poor craftsmanship and poor rebuilding techniques... Sorry it is my personal beef. Sloppy and improper work just kills me.

A record deficit, unprecedented unemployment (for my lifetime), shaky real estate market, soft banking market, and we are dumping resources into an uneconomically viable dump... It is time to help fellow Americans, not spread ourselves out further.

hear hear.....the sad and unmentioned truth is that we are anywhere in the world one disaster from complete social chaos and anarchy...new orleans was pitiful...but what was one to expect with the government holding its dick and a social cesspool to begin with....

one disaster and any us citizen can expect to live like a barbarian anywhere here...for months...and in reality a great deal of new orleans is still a lawless wreck and from all appearances the government let em have it...rape murder and mayham....look at the la riots....and everyone sits at there coffee tables and look at it with a very naive beleif that the government is all powerful and will be there for em....I'll bet the fucking pres here not once so much as missed his morning cup of coffee thru all of the disaster... the truth is that when it comes to disaster and terror here the government and law tucks tail till the dust settles regardless of who and where....

I would recommend spending some of that money on a few firearms just in case we have a quake and the natives start getting restless in the aftermath...and teach your kids to use em cause there will come a day when they will need em....

Nobody is denying you guys don't have your own problems, and I agree with you that the media and celebrity coverage really only seems to take advantage of the situation for brownie points. We all know Haiti is a shithole that has been fucked up the ass at every angle from colonial western nations.

While our governments and celebrities posture with pomp and circumstance, let's not forget about the actual victims either. A quarter million people dead, families ripped apart, their livelihoods taken away from them. Fuck the media, fuck the governments, fuck the celebrity posers, fuck FEMA, fuck the UN, but don't fuck the Haitians (the innocent ones who aren't there to take advantage of others, that is). That's all i'm saying.

I hear you tom...but at what point does one draw the line

I am trained...by fema...to respond to most type of disaster and am a certified emergency management response coordinator...I know how fucked it is there and what should be done

I am not blind to the pain and suffering of the victims either...but we can't save ourselves and we dump millions and millions into a nation like this...to save them from themselves....billions and billions into iraq and afganistan daily to save them from themselves and if u let bush tell it we are modern crusaders...

All the while, I see my people losing their homes and jobs while we make work for these nations...and dump resources that our people need...especially now

It is ridiculous...we arnt wanted there but they will take our commodities...

There is a natural order and we seem to desire to alter it howerver we may and they call it compassion...but I see in the faces here daily the blind eye people turn on our own and act as if they are above their situational weaker brethren...but then everyone cries for these people...I don't get it

I veiw haiti as a sick dog that just aint ever going to be well and needs to be left to sink or swim...or put down...we as a nation can barely take care of ourselves yet fools give all they have to save a nation that has no ties to us in an event like this...it is ironic and pathetic...like half of africa...and iraq...and afganistan...

Sorry but all my compassion has either been dulled by the reality of life here or by the fact that they arnt my people and if we don't care enough to save and assisst our own...then we need to allow natural order else where take hold and watch em sink or swim...there are colonies or monkey's in places that have a better and stronger social foundation then haiti...they arnt even civilized to there own

BINGO!

Not the best article here, but the public is upset at the BS congress is pushing. Skip the Palin fluff in there as well.

The world is a fucked up place isn't it. :?

Pretty sad to see the results of the previous generations colonialism and imperialism. The more we fuck with the world (despite claiming to "help") the more harm we seem to cause. What sucks is that the military and arms industries are so big now that they "can't fail", and they depend solely on the existence of war. So we will keep boning countries over and over and making excuses for it because our economy demands it.

I agree we should all be worrying way more about our own people than fucking with others. But this is built into our DNA, our governments, societies and economies. And as the world becomes more globalized we infect all of their social structures as well. It doesn't seem like we will ever be rid of it, and that depresses me every day. :|

So I think we are all in agreement here. My issue was just with the way your argument was presented, i.e. "fuck the Haitians", which isn't fair to those innocent people who lost everything, in my mind. I can totally agree with your motives at least.
