I almost bought the AMD dual core 64 6000+ 3.0 ghz for $280 but I decided to wait until AMD releases their quad core next year. Plus I had to buy a motor for my truck so I have no money now.

Just upgraded mine too, I'm not to hot on Intel so yes I tossed the options around and went AMD again.
From-
MSI K8n mini ATX
Nvidia DVI AGP card with 256mb memory
Creative Audigy Platinum dual 24bit DAC
1 GB 266 mhz RAM
80 GB WD hard drive
1800+ Athalon
To-
MSI K9 Diamond full ATX
ATi 800 PCi-E Dual head DVI with 512mb memory
Audigy HD onboard w/dual 24bit DAC
2 GB 800 mhz RAM
1 TB of Hitachi enterprise SATA II drives
Reformatted my old drives for a total of 1.33 TB
Dual Layer SATA II DVD burner
4400+ Athalon dual-core
I made certain to get the AM2 chipset this way when AMD releases their next bad-boy I can upgrade to it still if I feel the need.

that's a massive upgrade allrite...and the K9 Diamonds are real diamonds no doubt.
I wanted to go AMD way , they've always been superior comparing a equivalent Intel , but it was the new C2D that got me hooked with Intel .
AM2 is good, supports ddr2 and their Quad K8 which is around the corner, will have variants that would support AM2 ...
Mine currently ,
Core 2 Duo 1.86 Mhz
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4
Cooler Master iGreen Power 600w ATX v2.2 , EPSv.2.91
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Add-on
2GB DDR2 667Mhz
HIS ATI X1950 Pro - PCI-Ex
320Gb SATA 2
DVD-DL IDE
waiting for that price slash on Quad-core... hehehe

I'd imagine AMDs price on their new Quad Cores will be very competitive with Intel's price....usually is.

Except for the P4 dual core - Pentium D
That should go ....replaced with a Quad.
wander the board supports Quad probably u would need to flash it with newer bios.

I won't upgrade again until I can afford an intel extreme proc, so it'll probably be a very long time.
