Ok, figured it out. Wifi. Any device on wifi (802.11g, 802.11n won't have this issue) will be limited to around 12mbps, since I am not the only one with that number...

Image

From a wired connection, it's much better :D

I connected to my 802.11g access point and got 25.7mbps/4.32mbps
My 5GHz 802.11n access point got 30.88mbps/4.32mbps
My 2.4GHz 802.11n access point got damn near the same (which it should)
This is all in one router BTW.
Only a 5.2mbps difference...

So, in summary, your router sucks.

Wow, thanks for that. Totally not needed at all. Just trying to have fun man… No need for the attitude.

And for the record, I don't care if my router sucks, and it doesn't BTW. The router was free 5 years ago, and runs ddwrt. Works great for what I need. Oh and I am 50+ feet away through several walls, but that wouldn't have anything do with it now would it  Radio waves travel through walls with no signal loss at all, right? I wasn't trying to be all scientific and shit, I can do that just as well as you, just trying to have a little fun… Sorry I brought it up actually. Meh, oh well. (and I could be on the rag, so sorry if I took you wrong )

I guess while on the subject, here's my router:
http://www.ubnt.com/rspro
Running DD-WRT.
With these cards installed:
http://www.ubnt.com/sr71a (setup for 5GHz 802.11n)
http://www.compex.com.sg/fullDescription.aspx?pID=90 (1W 802.11g)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0456041155 (generic Atheros card, 802.11n/g)

All installed in this case: http://store.netgate.com/RouterStation- ... 1C127.aspx
It's crazy seeing 7 antennas coming out of it....it is a beast.

Electromagnetic waves.... Took the class last semester. http://www.eecs.umich.edu/emag/

Cool, thats why I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially not a "random" internet person. The internet sucks for trying to convey emotions, so what is truly intended behind words is very hard to tell without body language. So no harm, no foul :D

Damn, that's a nice setup! Little "fancier" than mine. I used to have a p4 1.6ghz/w 2gb of ram running gentoo as my router and my wrt54g just acting as an access point and a WDS bridge to another wrt54g running ddwrt, but an bad system update due to a bad memory module that caused bash to not update and fail forced me to used my wrt54g with ddwrt on it for my router. Works just fine for what I need at the moment, but your setup looks sweet!

You got your HAM radio license? I just picked mine up a couple of months ago. Just got my tech cert, going to go for the extra here shortly. Lots of good theory of radio waves in general. I learned alot about all that stuff. Took an online class for that. Wasn't specifically dealing with electromagnetic waves, but since all "radio" waves are of some sort of electrical magnetic force it can all be applied. It's good stuff!

It doesn't suck....it really depends on the area you live in.
I live in a college town, so my connection is excellent.
Although my newer modem seemed to increase my speed a bit:
