been seeing them on the news lately and it brought a couple of questions to my mind. Unfortunatly they have NOTHING to do with the topic on hand and really just more curious.

1.)If they are african-american here, are they african-brittsh/english there?
2.) I was also curious if they call each other n**** like they do here?
3.) Do they like to talk all gangsta-ghetto to each other there, like they do here?

I was having problems imagining the english accent mixed in with the ghetto/slang/gansta talk mixed in callin each other n****. Do we have any members in england that can confirm?

Excuse my ignorance but are the riots in England exclusively being perpetrated by black people? I'm not following the news.

From the time I spent in England and Ireland I found that there is racism but it is not anything like the US. Black people are treated more fairly I think because they don't have that same slavery stigma that African Americans have here.

that was my opinion too from my time spent there, although I have heard over the last 5-10 yrs that the europeans are growing more and more tired of the islamic people. To say there is no racism would not be correct but I wonder if that will ever be the case.

Anyways. This was about greed, pure and simple, and not about race or even teh "unreasonable" shooting of an armed, known, criminal (remember how prevalent guns are in the UK, i.e. they're not).

I have to agree that some of the most racist people I have ever known, were black people. They think it is ok here to continue to carry a chip on their shoulder because "my ancestors" did what they did to them. My grandfather on my dads side and great grandfather on my moms side immigrated here and never participated in the slave trade but that doesn't matter as much as the fact that I am blond with blue eyes.

Does it not speak to anything deeper in the fabric of modern UK/British society? Just plain individual greed? I suppose that's a common theme throughout the history of… nearly every society.

from here (remember, I don't live there), there's a significant room for improvement in a lot of areas. The big thing is that this has given Cameron a wide-ranging political remit to do whatever it takes to deal with the situation.
Example: someone put up a petition on-line that the looters should have benefits taken away. 80000 signatures in 24 hours.
Then there's the story of "community service", fixing the places back - in hi-viz clothes - that's also being done
evictions from social housing for rioting - legal changes made / in process to enable this to happen (it wasn't possible earlier unless they were rioting on their own patch).

Then there's the story of the rubber bullets and water cannon. And the desire of communities to take their protection into their own hands. A very interesting mix.

chavs huh? interesting. here we call them wiggers.

catching up on alot of my derogatory slang today as I was suprised when my dad suddenly asked me at dinner what a kike was? Something I was not expecting but I guess he heard some public service announcement commercial against racism and wasn't sure what it was. wikipedia was our friend there as I knew it was a derogatory term for a jewish person but didn't know the history behind it, which was kinda interesting...
