Yeah, that suprised me as well. I didnt realize it until i sold a camera and they took about $50 from it. Then you add the damn paypal fees that ebay gets and its about 11 or 12%. Id rather post to craigslist and deal with all the stupid locals

Never will I do it again, unless I am a retail store and making 200% profit on all my items! Only good thing that came out of Ebay was Paypal!

i list stuff on the bay a lot, and i found that allot depends on the format you choose.
iirc, it is auction format that 50$ is the cap/max... take example the the artwork we are selling on the bay for a client...some of it is listed for the likes of 12K, but on "buy-it-now's", it is a % of purchase price and not capped....but if we elect for auction format, it is capped at 50$.

I've been selling a lot of stuff on eBay for about the last 6 months. My fees are about 12% to eBay and 3% to PAYPAL. Most of my items are less than $500. Also, I own a retail car audio shop. Never have I been able to get 200% markup. That would be spectacular!!! Where do you shop? I would like to open a store there.lol Typical markup is about 30-40% and Damn near impossible to get in todays market.

Recently sold some stuff on eBay...it sucks. I haven't sold anything in several years on eBay since recently.
Been a member since 2001 and over 600 positive feedback, but they're still holding my paypal funds for several days before they release it.....

I was trying to sell tools on Craigslist that just wouldn't move, for months. Lots of no shows and trollish emails.
They sold on ebay in a week for twice my CL ask. I was happy to pay the 12 %.
I used the auction format, no reserve, $0.99 start.
Some items do way better on CL here. It seems to be a matter of divining the market.
I have seen used car audio sold on Amazon, no personal experience selling there.

Paypal was a success before ebay bought it.
