To all my computer freak geeks.....

Post by smgreen20 »

What in the hell is a XXX domain name? and why the rave about them all of a sudden?

Now to my main concern,
I have a Linksis router and for some reason (about once a week) I have to unplug it to reset it so the computer and the PS3 will have an internet connection, Why is this?
Is there anything I can do/change to fix this. I've never had this problem but for the last few months it started doing this.

If it's on its way out, recommend me a router ~$75 that is at least dual band width. I will at times have 2 PS3's and 2 laptops running off of it possibly all at the same time. 1 PS3 direct connect, the other PS3 and 2 laptops wirelessly.

I'm liking the Belkins, any thoughts?

its going to be the new porn addresses. You are seeing so much about them because a couple of companies opened up businesses registering those domain names like go-daddy did.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

My linksys does the same thing. I dont know the reason either. It will slow the bandwith to about 10-20% of what is supplied. Not enough porn use I guess, I will have to start watching some.

You should definitely try upgrading the firmware before giving up. However, I honestly can't tell you how many routers I've owned that have done exactly that, especially when using torrents. Routers are shitty in general.

Inexpensive "home" routers, wireless access points and switches have a tendency for this kind of failure in my experience.

As for .xxx, it's a new top-level domain that supposed to be for porn sites but in reality it's just a new virtual Internet property created out of thin air so that the registrars can make money off selling domains.

After talking to a friend I realize I don't need a dual band as it doesn't do what I though. So on that note, I'll be going to H.H.Gregg where another good friend is the store manager (it's nice to have friends in high places, esp in this hobby) and seeing what he can do for me on a Netgear WNR3500L and a wireless USB adapter for the kids laptop I got from work for $20.
