I am running my student organizations web page that includes a forum on it similar to this one. It has been running smoothly until lately. I seem to be getting a lot of spam on there, and it is getting irritating. Is there any way to reduce the people registering and posting?

Welcome to the Phorum. Unfortunately not nearly as many of us are familiar with the php coding as we are car audio. As Bfowler mentioned, Stipud would be your man for that. Hopefully you stick around for the audio and other discussions too. :D

Administration Panel
General Admin
Configuration
Enable account activation -> User (if damn near nobody joins, set it to admin, which lets you pick and choose who gets to join, rather than them simply having to click an email for validation)
Enable Visual Confirmation -> Yes

If there are any problems after that, check out the PHPBB forum for a "better captcha" mod (there are many), and other various anti-spambot mods.

Here's an example of a mod you need:

I would also download and set up "Easymod" to make installing mods much easier (still a few tweaks if you run different themes than the standard one, but these minor edits beat installing stuff yourself).

I just installed this captcha: http://www.phpbb.com/styles/forum/viewt ... p?t=473222
We'll see how it works. I've already had three spambots registered so far (only one of them that validated the email correctly). Hopefully this will keep it at 0 for awhile. If I find any more, I will look at a more drastic change.

No more Integra? What are you driving now?

I've had an 01 Impala for several years now. The Integ was gon in the days of the old PG forum, I just never switched my name when going to SB.
