So I have a snes and genesis.. but those were from my teen years where I was broke, so never built a large catalogue of games. The snes doesnt work here 'cos it's british and there's no way around it. The genesis does 'cos it's yank, and I have a jap MD too.. but I dont have that many games.

So a while back I finds out that you can emulate them both on PS2. I know what some of you are thinking "well duh, Yiddo, you could do that on a pc !oneone11" but I dont like playing those kinda console games on PC, they dont feel right even with a pad. I like to sprawl out on the floor in front of a large TV (slightly smaller now C/O ex wife) and play away, I have a 25" so it's all good..

Anyway I did some hacking and chopping of files back when (because these emus are for modchip owners and not us lowly Hdloader users) and created some ISOS. Dumped them onto the hard drive and bollocks, didnt work. Well thats not entirely true, it did, but it was looking to the optical drive for the roms. And if I ejected it to put roms in it would then lose me my one 'grace boot' that Hdloader grants and not read the drive at all..

Well recently some smart chap hacked snes station and made it read the hard drive, memory cards and usb jump drives. So I installed both emulators last night (using the injection to hard drive method) and hey presto ! they work.

Because I'm laid up I havent been able to leave the house (I cant even get in the Tib with this thing on my leg let alone attempt driving it) and so I have been taking Darvocet (perc basically) getting myself comfy and playing the shit out of some amazing old games.

So my games of choice thus far have been -

Snes -
SMW (Super Mario World). Hailed by many (and myself) to be the greatest console game ever made. I'm a huge platform fan (lately we seem to have been all but forgotten apart from the new super mario on DS) so playing this again after so many years has been very pleasurable.

I've completed it god knows how many times (this and the second best game ever Mario 64) but I love going back to do it all again.

Super Mario Kart - Do I even need to go on about how fucking incredible this game is? ok then, I wont. Nuff said.

Vegas Stakes - I dont know why I love this game so, but its just alot of fun. They added the element of suprise wherein you can get ripped off by passers by who come to talk to you. You can help people aswell and theyll give you cash, or you can find out they picked your pocket  The game is just all out fun.

Super SFII : The new challengers. I am a massive SFII fan so have been playing this LOADS.

Various hacked SFII - The magic of using roms is you can load up all those wonderful (and some very wierd) hacked versions, like Streetfighter 5 lmao) Back in the day of the UFO and Magicom (copying devices with a floppy drive) games used to go about what was then a very basic internet BBS. I used to have one of those devices.. Super Wildcard mine was :)

Genesis/Megadrive.

Beavis and Butthead.

I had never played this before but it's alot of fun. I used to love B&B so this is kinda like making me laugh, uhhuh, huh, huh.

Sonic the hedgehog 1&2.

It aint no mario, but who cares? the blue spikey fella has a way of his own :) and Miles (aka tails to you yanks) is cute too.. Makes me wear my sonic Tshirt with pride :)

Streets of Rage 1&2.

Amazing games. Especially the second one..

Revenge of Shinobi 1&2.

Im a ninja on the inside.. Well actually Im like flesh and internal organs and shit, but this game rawks.

Road Rash 2.

IMO the best of the bunch. Apparently theyre bringing out a 2007 version of this, I hope so ! This game is so much fun (and the 3DO one was incredible !)

Altered Beast.

Yeah, I liked it. Different..

Rastan Saga.

Same as above.

The Terminator.

One of the very few movie tie ins that actually worked and was a fucking good game. Last level is hard as nails but it's pretty easy to complete.

Shadow Dancer.

They improved upon the arcade game here, making it a bit easier. Which was good because the arcade one was fucking too hard. Who wouldnt love setting a white german shepherd on people tho?.
Yeah it's easy but its so fast and frantic I just dont care. And the graphics are better than the arcade one, too. So all round fun.

Thunderforce.

I remember seeing this the day my friend got his imported megadrive. It was what made me go to machine shack in streatham and get mine :).

Toejam and Earl.

Again this one is a bit obscure. But man, what a total kick ass game to play with a friend. It's not very competetive (apart from the fact you can get promoted and you get that from presents LOL) but its a chilled way to explore and have fun. The rootbeer is awesome, makes you burp. You get called a Peanut, wiener, dufus and so on before becming a funk god, and its just a great way to get the hours flowing by..

The boogie man is hilarious "boogey boogey boogey" cupid a pain in the ass, and the hula dancer that stops you to dance is just too much. Come on, how can you not laugh @ fat earl when he's stuck doing the hula.

Overall this is one of my favorite games ever to grace a console, "ICK ! mouldy cabbage !" lmao.

And that concludes Yd's retro roundup. If I can be bothered Ill add as I go :)

I used to own the SOE cart. And yes, I actually think it's a bit better than SOM, but that could just be because I've only played it once or twice and not 50 like SOM.
