try updating the driver.

if you have windows XP just try using system restore, but go back about 2-4 weeks and not just a few days, for some reason i have never had any luck fixing anything when i go back just a few days, but a few weeks seems to work, try that first the driver is probably corrupt

Whats your Spy-ware software look like ? is your Anti-virus up to date ?
Have you ever used Registry Mechanic ? it cleans pesky windows problems pretty good. I havbe a hackware of it if you need it.

I suggest Ad-aware, and Spy-Bot 1.4 for cleaning your system. It does not sound mechanical or electrical, it does sound like spyware or Virus related.

Let me know if I can be of help. :D

Try booting in safe mode? Does it do the same thing?
