tornado raped my pc.

yeah, so here in vancouver wa, we had a tornado touch down for about two seconds. It managed to drop the power at my apartment clear across town, and fry my motherboard. so i'll probably be out for awhile (typing this at my parents place)

Your not in Kansas Toto, so that is strange to say the least.
Good luck on the Mobo, Usually most PC's are power supply protected by the ancient designed PC power supply that IBM designed 30 years ago. Your power supply should have been killed not your Mobo. but perhaps it was a lightning strike involved.

I have a few parts about also LMK what you had and what was broke. I only have some older 462 pin AMD and P4 stuff but it all works and needs a home...just post or PM...

Will insurance cover this ? I had a PC fried by a lightning strike and the insurance paid for a new one.

well, I had just upgraded at the beginning of december, and still have my old stuff, just sucks to have to rolll back after JUST spending all the money to upgrade.
as for insurance.. they may, makes me wonder what the claim would cost me.
washington is ranked something like the third most unlikely state to have a tornado.. was quite rare.

My insurance did not go up. I claimed the PC and stereo system as damaged, about $1000 bill.

Also some of those parts if in Physically good shape, can still be RMA'ed. Especially if insurance doesnt pay out enuff.
Better than having to start from the little money you may get compared to what you actually payed. I dunno how insurance works in this particular case.

its a two month old asus mobo- i think asus america is in california, so i'll go the rma route. Making an insurance claim over something like this sounds like a whole lot of work.. though maybe I could let the smoke out of a few more things around the house and make it worth my while
nah.. besides, for all I know the tornado had nothing to do with it, and the damn thing just failed. Either way, a motherboard should be able to handle a little spike in the power, once in awhile...
