Phoenix Gold Phorum

Thought I'd share a couple of these pics with you guys. They were taken last year when I was in Thailand for a while and its one of the coolest things I've ever done. I've always loved big cats and having the opportunity to be this close to them is something I'll never forget....





The place where I did this is a Buddist Monastery (sp?) just out of Kanchanaburi. The background is that all of the Tigers that they have there were raised by the Monks after they had been orphaned as cubs (parents killed by poachers etc..). SO, whilst they are somewhat used to having people around them, I guess you can never fully tame a predatory wild animal though so theres still a bit of 'crap your pants factor' when you've got a tigers head in your lap.....

Oh, and in typical Thailand safety factor, the chains you see around the necks of the tigers were held into the ground by a tent peg

My daughter would give away EVERYTHING she has to do that. I showed her the pix lastnight and she freaked!!!!!

The best thing is guys.... It's cheap to do.

I chartered a specially booked day trip out of Bangkok to do it. All up it cost me about $300 Australian dollars for the day....... but....... The $300 paid for a driver and a personal tour guide (2 people) as well as the hire of a E-Class Benz to travel in all day including fuel etc. I left Bangkok in the morning and travelled up to Kanchanburi and saw the War cemetery there and the 'Bridge over the river Kwai' & Hellfire pass. Had a 5 course lunch at a local Thai resturant overlooking the river, and then in the afternoon went to the Tiger Temple and spent a few hours there before being driven back to Bangkok and dropped at my hotel. Everything was included in the $300 bux

If you were going with a group of people then its much cheaper than this to do, but you get transported around in a minivan rather than a benz. If I had've done it with a group it would have been less than 1/2 the price.[/u]
