Good deal, but red hot.

What to do, what to do. I found an ad here locally, but I'm pretty sure it's red hot. Here is what is in the package for $1,100:
1- Hurtz sub
1- Alpine dva 9965 head unit
1- 1000 watt alpine amp
1- 2 channel alpine amp
2- 8 inch hurtz space speakers
2- Tweeters
2- other little speakers (look like tweeters, but I don’t know what they are)
Turns out the Hertz stuff is a three way set, and the Alpine amps are PDX. So, I asked for more pics and I got them, but it just feels wrong to me. Take a look at all of the wires hanging out. And I asked about the x-overs, he said he called the shop that installed them and they said they didn't use them. How the hell do you run six speakers off of two channels of an amp and what was used as the active x-over???
Here is the add, and here are the extra pics:
We'll start off with the 8" midbass. Notice the wires still hanging out the back.
Then the midrange and the tweets, even if he hs no idea what they are.
Here is the sub, notice the wires
Here are the amps. Notice the covers missing because they were stacked.
And another, the speaker terminals are missing on one and notice the wires on the other.
So, what would you guys do?? Go ahead and buy it with a hunch it is stolen because it's a great deal or walk away. The more I think about it the more I think it's just not worth the risk.

I will say this and which might make you feel better I dunno... but I came across the very same thing with those very same of alpine amps through friend of mine.. and said the very same thing.. in jest with her... but she pointed out to me some weird screw or something in there holiding the wire... think maybe it only turned out to be a recesed allen key ICRC, but just remember saying same ting and I knew it wasn't stolen...it was from close friend... dunno..
so, it's entirely possible that a shop installed b/c this kid has no tools nor knowledge and paid circuit city to do it.. and now their doors are locked or something ... could be anything... hard to tell w/o knowing for sure...

All the speakers are Hertz.
Should I e-mail him back and ask to see receipts? Or maybe a shot of the install before it was ripped out??

Well, YOU didn't steal them. I might consider feigning ignorance in your shoes, over a good deal like that... although I certainly wouldn't have the guy drop them off at my house, or even let him see my car.
It is true that you might be giving him a reason to continue stealing by buying them, but if you don't buy it, someone else probably will anyways. And of course there's always the off chance that the guy is a retard and it's perfectly legitimate.
I dunno... i've always wondered what I would do in your position.
Funny that they can't bother to take two seconds to disconnect those wires

Youd expect that equipment in a tight install, the Hertz at least. You spend all that time taking it out and cant dissconnect a couple wires? What was the car?, an F40?
At least if you bought it and it was stolen, your not a tard, and at least you can appreciate the quality of the gear.
Maybe hes pullin an insurance scam with an accomplice?

I wouldn't touch it at all unless you can verify it not stolen heres why Say its stolen and was reported to the police if the guy reporting it had serial #'s for the amps and you get caught somehow with that equipment in your car not only do have alot of questions to answer but you also lose the gear

I e-mail him and asked for pics of the install and receipts of the gear. We'll see if I hear back from him.

hertz has a VERY active process to keep track of their goods and they can probalby track those numbers to their orinal owners. I could check if you want but that seems like a great way to buy some bad carma man. The only people I hate worse then theives is the people that knowingly buy the stolen stuff.

Here is what I asked him:
Man that sub is beefy!! How much did you pay for that? Do you have any pics of the install before it was undone? How about any receipts? Where did you have the install done? Also, who did the uninstall?
Thanks for being patient with me,
Casey
Here is his response:
yea the sub is a tank. It was all bought and installed at ARA the tech is cleint, he can tell you all about it. his number is 801-836-9609. I think the sub was around 2k maybe $1,500 cant remember but client would know. The space spearkers are also really spendy. I will look for a pic and send it if I can find one, I had a ton but it was on my other computer that died.
So, he obviously has no idea what he has, there are cut wires everywhere, the x-overs are missing, he has no receipts, and there are no pics of the install. I don't think I can deal with this guy and sleep at night. I have had my shit stolen before and I felt like killing the bastards. I would feel even worse if I knew the that the guy that bought my stolen gear had a hunch but went ahead and bought it anyways. Not my cup of tea, I'll wait for a legit deal to come around.

politely ask him for serial #'s from the amps so you can verify they are not stolen for your own protection. If they aren't stolen he will gladly give you them if they are you will either get some excuse why he can't or he won't reply. Maybe even ask for pics of the bottoms see if you can see the serial #'s are still intact.

herts is not a mass market company and they keep very good records of their products. With that being said you can check with them and see if it comes up clean but if you don't and you do get it you need to be aware that those numbers can be tracked.
We all want good stuff for a good deal but what goes around comes around. I have never bought stolen gear and also never had anything stolen(knock on wood since I installed my octane today!).

Here is his response:
Lol that's funny but understandable. I can have Clint at the store print off all my receipts for install and everything, they have it all on record. The name is Automotive Restyling Associates (A.R. A. on the sign). If you are up in the salt lake area you can go by the store and talk with Clint about it. He was down here in Orem till they closed that store about a month ago. It is all top quality stuff the total install was around 9k to 10k because of the car, I will send you a pick as soon as I can find one, but I can verify everything.

What do you guys think, so I continue to pursue this or walk away? I could buy this whole package and keep the 3-way set while selling off all the rest and still make some money. I dunno, it still does not feel right. I guess I'll wait for some pictures.
