I've seen August Burns Red live at a concert I went to and they were pretty awful. But I'm gonna check out some of those others you listed, are any of them your favorite?

Yea, namedropping is cool. Basically, I haven't gotten a new CD in over a year and I'm growing tired of listening to talk radio. It's time for some new music and I'm really just looking for a few songs or bands to check out.

I added a bunch more to my list. Since you're new to the genre, you gotta find your niche first. So there's a bunch of stuff in there you probably won't like, but it's worth checking out anyways just to figure out what does and doesn't work for you.

Once you narrow it down a little more I should have some more focused suggestions.... unless of course you like vocal metal, in which case you can fuck off.

Vocal metal? What the hell is that?

And as far as niches I know I like industrial, speed, grind and I guess you would call it melodic metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Avenge Sevenfold, ect..)

But thanks for your suggestions, I'm working on downloading some of those now.

Singing clearly and audibly. In metal. It just ain't right!

3 inches is an exception, since they talk about slaying orcs and dragons... and Rammstein because they talk about incest, hemaphrodites, etc. in German.

If you want to try music out quickly, either search for "<band name> myspace" on google, or use http://seeqpod.com/

Are Deftones metal? I remember that had that one song that came out a few years back Change. Pretty good song.

And I know Underoath are no longer together, now they're something like Mayline and the Sons of Disaster?? Or something like that.

Some Deftones is metal in nature, i.e. the song "Elite". Their earlier stuff was heavier than the newer.

Underoath is still together, they changed their lineup a few years back (only the drummer is from the original lineup). Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are the original vocalist, guitarist, bassist turned drummer, and guitarist turned bassist from Underoath if that makes any sense.

Agree with you 100% here. I've seen them live as the opening act with August Burns Red, Spoken, Zao, and Demon Hunter.

I'd say BTA was the best band there.

Somehow I knew this topic would get some good responses

What is it about us audiophiles that makes us so susceptible to liking metal?

Not really.. I find most metal tracks are heavily compressed. There are very few albums I would actually claim have good recording. And since it's such heavy music, there's very few tone nuances and distinctions to be made out in the wash of distortion.

We like metal because it's fucking metal, that's why. :metal:
