Drunk Driving...

Post by 5.9Limited »

My wife and I saw a NASTY accident on our road this week... we live on the lake and alot of the homes are seasonal, so its very quite around our place till spring and summer so no much happens there. Turns a guy gets drunk near our place and him and his buddy's hop in his late model suburban to head home...his buddies made it home but he was drunk enough that he ended up fading off the road lake side and would have gone for a swim had it been for the 22" maple tree that he hit first. We drove by just after the ambulance got him out... He was DOA.

Judging the looks of the burb and what the cops told me, I figure he was going 65+ mph without breaking a sweat. I've never seen a full size burb in shape like this.. the engine comparment was gone, the engine itself had busted through the firewall, breaking the windsheild and "a frames ( which were up against the tree) and the dash/engine were touching the front seats. I don't know how they got the guy out. there was NO space in the front of that burb. the SUV hit so hard that when the engine dislodged it smashed the transmission /t-case off its mounts and the force from the rear drive shaft actually bashed the rear axel free of the car on the drivers side. I gotta good look at it because I had to sit there waiting for the FD to clear the road of debris before we could pass buy... lots of blood, fairly nauseating, and a good reminder why driving drunk is f(*&%%$ ridiculous.

true that...theres a house that sits lower than road level about 25 feet infront of the tree...with tht that maple the dude would have gone straight through the dudes roof into his living room...

my room mate is a longtime friend that has become an alcaholic over the years with 2 DUIs to prove it. I am willing to bet that he would blow over the limit 4 out of the 5 nights he goes out drinking, and that is only on days that end in Y... I told him long ago that he needed to get some help but he will not admit that there is a problem. I then told him that WHEN he gets his next dui not to call me to bail him out as he will have wasted his call.

Yeah my family owns a bar. The entire family on my dad's side drink everyday. Thats why I try not to drink so often, I feel I have a high risk for alcoholism. Which is why I smoke :bong:

Brutal.

I can't bring myself to drive when I've even had a beer or two, it just feels wrong even when I can see and walk straight without question. That said, I feel the same way about :bong: even though I'm generally waaaay more on top of my game than with booze.

Just the idea of crashing my truck because of my own faulty actions rubs me the wrong way... not because of what would happen to me or my truck, but because of the shame I would feel for being the dumbass who crashed.

If I've had even 1 beer to drink I make the wife drive. Course, I drink 7 days a week, so I guess that's every night.

I hardly ever drink to begin with...I've been noticably tipsy maybe 4 times in my life...but have been very cautious...it just freaks me out to think of ending up as tomorrow's headline ya know... one minutes mistake ends up as a life of consequence for you and who ever else you hurt ya know.. heavy stuff.

This hit home for me ............. too many times assholes like this kill entire families and they end up with just scratches .............. i cant count how many times i have had to cut a vehicle apart around the victim trying like hell not to injurer them more by prying them out of a twisted mess getting them on the a helicopter and to the trauma center just to find out that they didn't make it and the asshole that killed them only gets maybe 2-3 years and might only serve half of that in the long run .................. even though he only killed him self there are still victims ......... his family be it a wife, kids, mother, father the rescuers that had to put him out and have to deal with another persons lifeless face in there dreams ......... trust me they add up

Thats part of the reason why I dont  or :bong: .

I grew up with 4 of my best friends and three of them were BAD drunks....they started drinking in Jr. High...like 13 yrs old+....and the 4th one...was even worse....drinking at 13, and doing drugs and stuff.

I grew up with them and it was hard, we knew each other and hung out with each other almost every day from like kindergarden/first grade...maybe 2nd grade for some...and we're still friends today...but man....when you have 4 friends who just want to do all that crap....and then end up almost killing each other....ie: driving....or getting pissed off at each other (while drunk) and throw scissors AT you...and they stick into the wall right next to your head....you wake up and say.....uhmmm that could have been my face/eye/brain...whatever part of your body, and pretty much could have ended your life or someone else...thats just crazy.
Plus I had a good friend in Highschool kill himself and his GF comming home from prom....wrapped his car around a pole.
Dead instantly from the impact. Car was almost in half. he was doing (they estimate 85+mph around a 25mph turn.

So I vowed to never drink and smoke....and still haven't...
