A reborn sub and my new paperweight

Hey I decided not to thrash my IDmax sometime last night when I starting putting in the new recone. Now I got a brand new sub and a very expensive paperweight.

Wow... I'm surprised it wasn't shorting out!

How easy was it to recone the Max? I recall the Ti Elite was a breeze to do.

Now I think Ill put these in and break er in real easy. Should be alittle more output than my sapphire 12 and xs2300.

It was super easy. 16 screws and a set of vc shims. I was suprised really.

I know it was pretty bad. Stipud do you have any tips for breaking in a speaker. I thought you had a Max once upon a time, how did you break it in. I think what happened to said paperweight is lack of proper break in. I was so excited I just wanted to hear what it would do and the x600.1 I had hooked up to it didnt have any trouble doing damage. Im sure it didnt help that it was in a 2.55 cuft sealed box. Its been a couple years the Max has been sitting around now. I have had the recone for alittle of a year sitting in my closet lol. I have hear just to listen to music at moderate levels for a couple weeks, is that the best approuch? Thanks

I can almost certainly guarantee you that "improper" break in wouldn't cause damage like that. That's most likely either a manufacturing or shipping defect.

I break in my speakers and headphones by playing the radio nice and loud for 24 hours, or just use them normally. They will break in just fine over time with normal use. Hell, I often pound subwoofers right out of the box... as long as you don't hold test tones for a long time, causing the speaker to overheat, it will be fine.

Thats good to know. I had always felt like I did something wrong for the speaker to have done that. When I received the sub there was a piece of paper in the box that something along the lines of this. " The Idmax is a high performance transducer with tight mechanical tolerances. Never push the cone in with your hands to test excursion. Also apply full power from your amp until the driver has had the proper break-in period.
