Well if I wasnt seeing a full blown reciever right there in the pic I would guess its a hideaway for all the components but I dunno.

Way too funny guys! It is an actual midget door that accesses to a storage room for the kids' toys. Also we had to get behind that wall to fish wires-inside...!
