"THE BEGINNING" V-2
Decided to upgrade the front door woofers to the Profi Phase Plug. They should give me a little more headroom in terms of midbass.
Here is some new pics of the speakers.
I hope to be installing the rear coaxials soon.

If yours is anything like my Roadster, you won't be able to tell any difference. Although I switched from running my Ti500.4 active to the Roadster's 4 channel bridged passive. Aesthetically you are definitely upgrading to one of the sexiest amps PG has ever produced!bruther wrote:I really think the Roadster is one of the nicest LE amps they made. I'm partial only to the Outlaw because of the history but based on pure looks and design I love the Roadster.
Lets see if she sounds as good as the TI that i just took out.

They are definitely a smoother sounding speaker for me. On the clarity and SQ scale they are very much, perfect for my ears. Though I would like them to scream a little more.bogart wrote:
So what do you think of the rainbow highs....nice?
The kick (Phase plug) woofer has some incredible bass and has some amazing definition. For me, it has always been hard to tell some woofers apart but the definition in the mids is incredible. Though I normally play rock.....I threw in some OAR and DMB... The instruments (trumpet violins, Sax) are absolutely perfect... smooth, defined, clear. At higher levels the precision comes out. I keep going back and forth on which woofer to keep in there... I currently have the orginal in as I have been still trying to tune everything. I'm going to have to spend more time with the new amp and getting everything set right.
I will have to say that in terms of build quality, the Roadster has the looks and feel of a PG amp. It really is a nicely built amp. I can't wait to have it hooked up. Though the TI line was one of my favorties and arguably one of the most popular I never thought it was a greatly built amplifier..... The Roadster really seems to be built with a lot of detail.

Hey all,
quick question.......I'm thinking of rebuilding my amp rack. beneath my carpet that covers my spare tire is several different sections of foam. This foam is about a couple inches thick. I was thinking of removing the back section foam and building a steel frame for my amp rack.
My question is.....if I wanted to build a rack out of steel square tubing, what options do I have for connecting the tubing together? I don't have a welder and I don't know how to weld so other than welding how could I connect them together?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

There's some kind of steel or aluminum tubing the guys at work in the mock up shop use. I can't remember the name for the life of me, but I'll check on it for you tomorrow.
Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but might be worth a look.
Ping you tomorrow with more info when I get a chance to look at it.

Buy a crap load of "L" brackets that you'd use for the back of a picture frame and buy a lot steel screws to replace the wooden screws that come w/the brackets.
A friend of mine just bought a working 110vac welder for $30 at a garage sale this weekend. Not super powerful, but enough for what I'd need. Look around, you might find something cheap.

Thanks....
Ok so I've decided to take my system active and also add a set of speakers for the Kicks.....
Need some opinions from you guys....debating between going with the Rainbow Profi 4" in the kicks or 5.25"?
I also need a processor/crossover for going active. What are some of the processors that you all recommend?
Anybody listen to the Zapco DSP6?

Metal amp rack...
Brian,
The stuff I was refering to is called Bosch.
A quick google came up with this website: http://www13.boschrexroth-us.com/Framin ... ?Group=102
and you can see on the page the various ways to connect it. A bit more digging will find you more info I'm sure.
Maybe that helps or might be an option for you....

^^^ yeah that's similar to the connectors I was talking about, only it uses square metal tubing and is held in by pressure. You see it all the time in office furniture, especially for the feet.
bruther,
You will be running active with a set of speakers in the kicks, and midbass in the doors? Aren't you a little short on channels with your Roadster for that?
Personally I think buying high end components like Rainbows, then discarding the passive crossover that has all the engineering in it, is a bit wasteful. If you are going to run active you would be better off sourcing separate speakers. Top of the line SEAS or Tymphany would probably be cheaper than a set of Rainbow comps, and likely sound better without the passive.

I'm going to be adding another amp in the car......just debating what I want to do.stipud wrote: You will be running active with a set of speakers in the kicks, and midbass in the doors? Aren't you a little short on channels with your Roadster for that?

I think the passives are fine but I don't think they are better if I ran a active crossover that had the ability to truly adjust every spec of my system. I guess if I compared the passives to other passives I think that's where the Rainbow crossovers would show their colors.
When I originally bought the comps I wasn't planning on going active.....if that was the case I would not have purchased the components.....but I've heard the SEAS Lotus and realistically the Profi's sounded better to my ears....That doesn't mean they are better though.
Now I just need to sell my DD5 and then find another amp.
