New car Install! :D

I just picked up a 09 Honda Fit Sport to replace my old Lexus for my daily driver and to compete in IASCA.
So far I've been mulling over mounting locations for the amps and subs.

As for the front speakers, im planing on going 3way active with mids/tweets on A pillars and Midbass on kicks.

These pictures are from the past two weekends

Equipment so far...
Clarion DRZ9255
ADS P840 and P2110
Scan Illuminator 1" tweets
Peerless 830986 3" mids
SEAS W18NX 7" MBs
Undecided for subs.

First things first, this car can use a lot of sound dampening.
I purchased Cascade VB-2HD and VB-4 so far. Im going to use these products along with some leftover dynamat, ensolite, and foam from different companies.
I began taking the Fit apart this past weekend

Stripped trunk:

Note that square hole in the second picture, Im thinking of building an enclosure over over that area

Dynamat on the flat areas and some of the sheet metal:

VB2-HD in the wheel wells:

I have to admit, this car is one of the easiest car that I've ever taken apart.

I started with some dynamat to add some mass to some of the sheet metal as before (but I think its more random if anything lol)

Then went to town with the VB2-HD

I went ahead and added some foam

I stripped the interior for further dampening

Again, Im only using mass loading in certain areas

Cascade VB-2HD

I installed the material as far up behind the factory pad as I could

Cascade VB-4

$50 0awg special online a few months ago. Not the greatest, but more then I will ever need in this car.

Power and ground for the Clarion source power supply

While I was at it, I upgraded one of the ground wires.

I took advantage of leaving early from work

Making RCAS (Gepco D72401EZGF cable and Streetwires ends)

Dynamat and McMaster brand 1/2" closed cell foam with foil backing

I couldn't afford buying more Cascade VB-3, so I settled for Second Skin Luxury Liner. Quality isn't as good as the Cascade, but I guess i'll do. The foam appears to be the type that will rot with moisture

I finally finished up installing the wires. Note that the wires are temporary ran up to the end of the center console for for easy access when I install the radio

All back together. Finally i can drive with a full interior and evaluate if the sound treatment worked

I left the pictures of the fully installed interior off since you guys already know what it looks like

Now the real fun part! Custom stuff

Looks like a great start!! That's a hell of a lot further than I have ever gone with a vehicle. BTW, did you get that RCA stuff from me? I don't remember who I sold that to.

Looks great so far!

As for competition and IASCA install judging, I would suggest looming the power wire front to back if it's still accessible. That will be a key focus point of the install judge. Even if it seems redundant or even if passes the rules by your interpretation, it will come down to the install judge and HIS interpretation of the rule. There will be lots of anal judges that make it their duty to bust your balls and the exposed power wire will be an easy one to pick on. And it could cost you 5 points and the difference between 1st and 5th place. As cheep as loom is comparatively, it's always a given to just loom everything.

Very good point there, the trim panels are currently back in...barely I might add. The wire is attached to the side of the car so its relatively easy to get to without ripping the interior out again. I'll try it, but im not sure if the interior panels will go back in.

Funny you should mention split loom...in my previous install I could not use split loom inside the car (due to things not fitting) and I used techflex instead. The judge said that it does not do anything in terms of protection...which makes sense. He didnt dock my any points but said that some judges might as you mentioned.

The utter lack of deadening on your car was surprising. I'll bet it sounds a hell of a lot quieter driving down the road now! Like a luxury yacht! Did you deaden up the firewall as well?

Actually it had more then I expected

the car was much louder then I'm used to. The Lexus is a much much quieter car in stock form.

That said, I'm confident that the car is much quieter now. It is especially noticeable when cursing down the freeway. I dont have to blast the sorry excuse for the stock radio to drown out the noise now.

I would say that it was totally worth doing this sound proofing project

As of now, Im pretty much done in terms of deadening, the only panels that hasnt been treated are the doors. That can wait since im not doing door speakers

Im confident that when I do sound proof the doors, the car will be even quieter.

I began the sub enclosure today. Its nice working from home. I got to reconcile our account while waiting for fiberglass to dry

This is the basic idea of what I want to do:

I finished almost an entire roll of 3M painters tape

I ended up with about 4 - 5 layers of fiberglass before running out of resin.

I hope I can do about another 5 layers of fiberglass tomorrow in addition to beginning the baffle and bracing <wishful thinking>

Brian, it takes a lot of patience and dabbing with the brush.

In fact I try to use a little resin as possible. Too much of it will make the enclosure brittle.

I managed to finish the mold today. In total I went through 3 bags of fiberglass already.
Im probably going to do some bracing tomorrow and hopefully make the sub ring.

Im itchin to get a pair of tantrum 600.4s though. The ADS amps are a bit weak, however less strenuous on the charging system. So Im a bit iffy about the Tantrums.
