To introduce myself, my name is Robin, I'm from Norway, I'm 23 and I have been into cars since i was 16. I have an education in industrial low voltage electrical systems and many many hours on the internet trying to get some stereo knowledge.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last spring i installed my first sq system consisting of the p88rs up front with active crossovers all round. My Route 66 powering a 6,5" Rockford Power component set and my M44 powering a couple of Xmax 10" subs in sealed enclosures.
This sounded beutifull and was the best sounding system i ever installed, even the dealer who i bought the fronts off had never heard the rockford set sound this good, and this dealer does custom installs..
but as all good things must come to an end: one evening i was stupid enough to let my brother borrow the car and dispite my warnings of not to exceed level 45 on my HU at all cost(which all the gains were set at) he cranked it to 62 and boom, no more subs and my M44 started to get some problems.
Luckily enough the route66 came through without a scratch, i would probably have killed him if he had killed that. The RF set also lived through, but i never got the really good sound from it again.
The M44 has started to go a little up and down in volume from time to time, and it doesn't sound nearly as good as it did sadly.
Today i have a nice mess of equipment in the car, everything driven active from my HU, the p88rs and powered by the halfbroken M44 and a new RF T10001bd. I have the same Rockford Power comp set up front as before, but powered off of the M44 instead of the route66 and in the back i have a couple of pioneer tsw3001d4 subs in a spl box(fart box) which is no good on music. Loud as hell, but sounds like shit!!
I will be doing this install with an interchangeable subbox and a big amp to play with at db drags. This is why the electrics in the car is so oversized for the amplifiers i'm installing permanently and also why i do certain things that way in this install, to stay in my "weightclass" in the competition.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My car is a 94 vw golf wagon with a modification or two.

btw - the picture is taken when it rolled out of the spray booth, so it is not all together in the picture, no engine or system in the back. This is the real ground clearance:

The system i'm going to install will be consisting of this:
HU - Pioneer P88RS(believe it's called premier p880rs in the states)
Front speakers - Boston Acoustics Pro Series
Subwoofers - ?
Amplifiers - PG M-series
Install acc from Installbay, Stinger, Tsunami and of course some PG
This is "The Plan" ATM.
- Finish sound dampening the rest of the car.
- Finish up my electrical upgrades to the car, better description later in the topic.
- Make new door cards to both front doors to hold 2 x Boston Acoustics Pro Series 6.4LF(4 total) in sealed enclosures @ 4 litres each and properly aimed.
- Make dash and A pillar modifications to properly aim and mount 1x Boston Acoustics Pro Series 4.4LF and a matching tweeter(undecided as of now) each side.
- Rework the "trunk"(wagon) for the new equipment.
As you can see i have some holes in my plan, and i could use some help with the choice of equipment to use and installation of these.
I was planning on doing cap replacements and general repairs(if any) on both my PG's before i install this again.
For powering the speakers i have been thinking of this.
Running the M44 on the tweeters(undecided) and the 4.4LF's with active crossovers from HU.
Buying one M50 for the 6.4LF's with active crossovers from the HU
Buying one M100 for the subs i haven't decided on yet, with low pass from the amp(or passive??)
Maybe even buy a M25 for rear fill just to have the whole series..

The electrics are pretty much done, but i need a HO alternator and i want an AGM battery(Kinetik HC2400) instead of the Optima Yellowtop i have now. This is not a priority ATM, but it will be fixed later.
To the Yellowtop i have connected two runs of 0 gauge cable on both + and - to Tsunami battery posts, fused with 300A each of a Tsunami fuseblock, so should be in the clear on that. The runs go a little past the back seat where i will be installing a distribution station with a 1F cap i have lying around and fuses for each amp.
The sound dampening is on the way, but not nearly done. I have done the floor in the trunk with 1 layer of butyl(vibrationdamping material), but i will also be covering them up with a sound barrier. the front doors are also covered in butyl, but i dont have the sound barrier mounted there either just yet. The rest of the floor and the roof will be covered this summer, it is simply too cold to do it now, the butyl wont stick to the metal in this temperature. We have had -30C some days this month and rarely over -10C so its not good to do in that temperature..
Sorry about the gutwrenchingly long post..
